Reform of Islam

The necessary reform of Islam to meet the Human Rights

I-INTRODUCTION

Over time the great religions have had to adapt to changing mores and the evolution of knowledge and consider the rules of democratic states in the field of human rights at least when their activities are  in these states.

Vatican II (1965) made liturgical modernizations viz., the official abandoning of Jewish culpability in the deicide and other modernizations which paved the way for possible social and legal reforms.

Islam and the Qur'an cannot escape a necessary adaptation respectful of Human Rights at least when it is practiced and taught in the Western countries. This adaptation exists in fact by the distance taken on the Qur'an by many moderate Muslims living in Western democracies, and particularly with certain verses of the Qur'an anachronistic and inappropriate for Human Rights.

Among the 1.6 billion Muslims those from Middle East, North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa i.e. 320 million people seem to include those who have a strict and not adapted reading of the Qur'an.  Many Asian Muslims (excluding those of Middle East) seems to include people having a more distant view from the Qur'an.

Muslim youth and young Christians converted to Islam in search of an identity or social or school leavers can easily be persuaded by reading the Qur'an literally may be excited by the simplicity and extremism of the Qur'an which makes easier the task of recruiters to holy war from another time in their country of residence of elsewhere. In fact the holy war (Jihad) is a war against the Human Rights; the underlying ideology has thus similarities with the fascism amplified by an expansionist proselytism.

The Qur'an is Anti-Semitic and anti-Christians and more generally opposes to all convictions which are not those of Islam. It targets to establish Islam as the sole religion in the world as this is mentioned in many verses.

The Islamist terror is directly inspired by verses of Qur'an whose meaning should be reconsidered.

After a careful reading of each verse of the Qur'an, we find that many verses reported in our book provide a framework to provide moral permission to hate and to kill, torture (giving free rein to sadistic impulses of individuals) and hunt the non-Muslims.

The reform of the Qur'an becomes urgent despite the inaccurate statements of few imams who pretend that Islam is a religion of tolerance.

A strict application of the Qur'an followed has some similarities with fascism by the violence, the intolerance and the disrespect for human rights; in addition, it is expansionary since The Qur'an is anti-Semitic and anti-Christian and generally opposes all beliefs that are not Islam.

In order to analyze objectively the nature of Islam we have studied all verses of the Qur'an and show that an urgent reform of the Qur'an is necessary in order to avoid public disorders and conflicts.

The tradition of dual language diplomacy of some Western countries because of the inclusion of financial and oil interests has its share of responsibility for the spread of terrorism by giving those states which are actually homesteads respectability that they do not deserve.

The reform of Islam in Western countries is necessary to protect the adverse external influences and will go through negotiations with the Western leaders of Islam in order to find acceptable ways to change the most dangerous verses but also by law to enforce public order, ethics of Western democracies including human rights.

Several verses of the Qur'an show that it was tailor made for the tribes of the Arabian Peninsula in the light of their manners at the time of his writing or his revelation to evolve from Polytheism to monotheism.

The Qur'an is especially by many verses adapted to Arabic tribes of Mecca and its surroundings. Several verses indicate that if the Qur'an is in Arabic is for clarity for its readers. Serious disturbance of public order and peace in general in Arab countries and Western democracies are directly derived from the Qur'an by some of its components such as:

1- The refusal to recognize the legitimacy of other religions

2- The desire to eliminate violence by the followers or adherents of these religions and in priority Jews and secondarily Christians

3- Terrible tortures and punishments mentioned in the Qur'an

4- The mistreatment of women and slaves (yet lively tradition in many forms through East)

5-pagan nature of a paradise to convince naive people to sacrifice their lives for attacks

6- The contesting of democracy as it takes into account the people's will, which is not acceptable by the followers of the Quran to the letter because they see a challenge to the omnipotence of God and his divine rules unless democracy is serving the Islamist regimes in which religion is the center and Human Rights are excluded.

The Qur'an requires a strict application of its rules by the Muslims and their divine character gives them a higher rank than any other rules even in Framework of civil life.

7-The lack of notion of free will which does not allow building a clear moral that distinguishes right from wrong because it is Allah who leads on the wrong or good track that he wants (Surah 16 verse 93, Surah 42 verse 8).

Islamic terrorism is rooted in a number of Qur'anic verses which inspires the organization Charters of terrorist groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, ISIS, reflect and apply the verses of the Qur'an the most violent except for the concept of Waqf (land of Islam including Israel) while the Qur'an stresses the award of the land of Canaan to the Israelites: verses 20 and 21 of Surah 5, verse 87, 90, 93 of Surah 10 verse 104 of Surah 17.

The reform of Islam in Western countries is necessary to protect the adverse external influences and will go through negotiations with the Western leaders of Islam in order to find acceptable ways to change the most dangerous verses but also by law to enforce public order, morality of Western democracies and human rights.

The call for hatred and murder cannot be taught to anyone and especially not to children who should be protected by the democratic states; such teaching cannot be justified by an alleged "holy" specificity.

Qur'an verses are not only anti-Semitic or anti-Israeli but involve the extermination and emigration from all Christian Arabs from Middle East.

The strict application of the Qur'an makes also an impressive numbers of victims among the Muslims. Thos who think to follow correctly the Qur'an want now to destroy those who according to their opinion do not follow it as it should be. We enter thus in and endless circle of death if the root of the problem is not solved.  The Qur'an bring us back to the war of religions in Europe in the 16th and 17th century.

The strict application of the Qur'an questions now the concept of State among Arab countries which was the result of the Sykes-Picot agreement on 16 May 1916. The end of Arab state can only make more difficult any achievement of peace agreement and in particular with Israel.

The Qur'an also plays on the meaning of "submit" to submit to Allah and the Quran is to be Muslim, but by exaggerating the sense, the Qur'an calls Muslims prophets like Abraham, because they are subject to God without the need to submit to the Qur'an that did not exist in their time; this is a gross misuse of the meaning of the word Muslim.

The Qur'an is first anti-Jewish as and all is permitted since God himself would have cursed the Jews.

In addition we found various text of translations of the Qur'an especially in English; the translators include in the so called holy text their personal interpretations or explanation or additional indications.

For example in the Dar es Salaam publications the verse 60 of Surah 8 is written as follows: "And make ready against them all you can of power, including steeds of war (tanks, planes, missiles, artillery, etc.)   Threaten the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others besides Whom, May you not know purpose whom Does Allah know...».

God could have not mentioned (tanks, planes, missiles, artillery, etc.) and the word etc overused by Dar es Salaam publications is not in line with clear indications of God.

We have chosen to study the Qur'an of Dar Albouraq of Beirut (Lebanon) whose comments are indicated in footnotes separated of the text of the Qur'an and which seems to be very close of the Arabic text in front of the French translation.

II- COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS IN FIGURES

The founding texts of the three main monotheistic religions can be classified into figures as follows:

Jewish Bible (Tanakh compound word of Torah, Nevi'im and Ketuvim, i.e. the texts of the Pentateuch, the Prophets and other writings); the Catholic Church added few supplements and called it Old Testament or deuterocanonical books The Jewish Bible include about 590,764 words.

The four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) and the Acts of the Apostles and Epistles or New Testament for Christians include approximately 184,759 words.

The Qur'an (basis of Islam) accounts approximately 161,157 words.

The New Testament for Christians is a complement of the Jewish Bible that remains for them a founding text.

The Qur'an is for Muslims a self-sufficient document which often refers sometimes in a distorted manner to certain parts of the Jewish Bible and more rarely to the Gospels.

The Qur'an challenges the principle of the trinity which became essential for the Church after the councils of Nicaea (325), Constantinople (375) and Chalcedon (451).

The Qur'an is the only founding text of Islam. The Qur'an recognizes the Virgin Mary as mother of Jesus but Jesus as a mere messenger of God and not as his son.

The self-sustaining nature of the Qur'an is illustrated by the distinction that is made between Jews and Christians who form the People of the Scripture (the Bible) i.e. the disbelievers as opposed to Muslims who are the "people of the Qur'an" and are the believers.

The Qur'an is divided into 114 Surahs (chapters) that include 6,176 verses. A verse may be composed of one or more sentences or a piece of sentence and some verses may contain only a few words that have no meaning in themselves and are the start or end of a sentence from another or others verses. The verse is thus a very arbitrary notion and that is why, in quantitative terms we preferred to retain the number of words instead of the number of verses.

The first Surahs contain most of the verses of the Qur'an; 70% of the verses are contained in 38 of the 114 Surahs. 36 of the 114 Surahs are specific in our opinion and do not repeat the content of other Surahs; these include 3,739 verses i.e. 61% of the Qur'an. The problem is that the repetitive nature already noted in the Surahs also exists also in the Verses and in fact on the 3740 verses of the 36 selected Surahs only 468 verses are in our opinion  repetitions of the content or reference of the 3,272 other verses of these 36 Surahs.

The Qur'an repeats, for example, many times the story of Noah, Abraham, and an abbreviated form of the story of the exodus and the curses and threats against Christians, but especially against the Jews. It pushes the believers to fight against the non-Muslims until only Islam remains.

These 468 verses represent only 7.6% of the verses of the Qur'an and contain 14 677 words out of the 161 157 words of the Qur'an i.e. 9.1 % of the number of words of the Qur'an and constitutes in our opinion its main substance.

The theological basis of the Qur'an is in a restricted way inspired by the Jewish bible increased by many rules of daily life including intolerant or even violent instructions against unbelievers; references to the Gospels have no influence on the theology of Islam which ultimately opposed to Judaism as to Christianity.

III- PRESENTATION OF THE ESSENTIAL VERSES

36 Surahs out of 144 and 468 excepts of verses out of 3 740

We make a general comment for each Surah in introduction but the selected verses are very explicit and do not require long clarification. We have selected the most representative verses in our opinion which are written in italic in order to avoid any confusion with the comments. We have suppressed the too repetitive verses which might have a liturgical interest (litany) but may be confusing for the theology.

Verses: they are supposed to form a paragraph containing at least one idea but the same idea can be spread over several verses.

We often find verses that have the same meaning but are repeated like a mantra or litany and saying often that "Allah is omnipotent, forgiving, omniscient, that Mohammed is his messenger and his path must followed under threat of a painful punishment because Allah is severe in punishment. " It is interesting to note the systematic phobia regarding the Jews in a substantial part of the Qur'an.

Hatred of Christianity is powerful even if Jesus is recognized as the Messiah strengthened by the Holy Spirit but in the Qur'an the Holy Spirit is only angel Gabriel that reveals the mind of God to men. However a verse specifies that Judaism is more hateful than Christianity.

The Qur'an is intolerant and put of course aside Judaism and Christianity but also those that are called idolaters or pagans, but could in fact now represent today all religious or philosophical beliefs i.e. the people of the rest of the world. The Qur'an wishes prevail and see other religions and beliefs disappear.

The Qur'an therefore does not accept any other belief and then rejects any belief as atheism, agnosticism, democracy and Human rights. Mankind cannot have other rights than those arrogated by God; If mankind gives itself rights this would probably show a lack of humility that could be disrespectful for God.

The Surah refers very little to their name and develop always the ideas specific to Islam in all fields

SURAH- 2 - AL BAQARAH (The Cow)

286 verses - 50 excerpts of verses were retained

Most of the verses refer to the need to follow the injunctions of God and to the incurred the risks in not respecting them:first 39 verses. From verse 40, it is reminded of how many favors the people of Israel has received by taking examples from the Jewish Bible in order to show how much he was not worthy of them. From verse 67 God would have ordained the people of Israel to sacrifice a cow, and they were reluctant to do it and disrespectful according to the Qur'an but ultimately the sacrifice was done. But at that time the Qur'an says that a murder was committed in the same family in order to demonstrate that the people of Israel were violating the commandment "Thou shall not kill." From this story and from that of the golden calf the people of Israel was declared not to be worthy of the tablets of the law given to Moses on Mount Sinai. Jews are also blamed for not having listened to Jesus the son of Mary whose basic teaching is nevertheless rejected by the spirit of the Qur'an.

The pillars of Islam are already mentioned in this Surah: oneness of God and the respect of Muhammad's prophecies, the fast of Ramadan, the Salat (prayers) and Zakat (solidarity donation) and an indication of forbidden foods (verse 173); Hajj (pilgrimage) is mentioned in verse 196.

Despite the so called respect of Jesus 'teaching, Jews and Christians are referred to together as the people of the Scripture (Bible) and as disbelievers in the Qur'an to fight or to convert.

The Bible is often mentioned but generally briefly and the Qur'an underlines the importance of Abraham, Ishmael and Isaac, Ishmael ranking second after Abraham.

The People of Israel is cursed by God from verse 159 to verse 178 and the worst misfortunes are promised to those who do not listen to the new messenger of God. This curse marks the relations between Jews and Muslims until now and only a reform of Islam similar to that of Vatican II for the Church may improve the situation.

In verses 190 and 191, it is recommended to kill the disbelievers which ruin the relationships with either the Jews or with Christians that is an incitement to hatred and murder that we cannot imagine from a merciful God. Jews are subject to a higher hatred than that of Christians according to verse 82 of Surah 5.

In verse the verse 193 the polytheists are threaten as they commit a more serious crime than murder. As a result all inhabitants on earth except Muslims cannot be forgiven and may fear the worst.

From verse 221 instructions are given concerning women who of course have a secondary importance compared to men.

Excerpts of verses

6. Verily, those who disbelieve, it is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe.

7. Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment.

10. In their hearts is a disease (of doubt and hypocrisy) and Allah has increased their disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell lies.

11. And when it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "We are only peacemakers."

13. And when it is said to them (hypocrites): "Believe as the people have believed," they say: "Shall we believe as the fools have believed?" Verily, they are the fools, but they know not.

25. And give glad tidings to those who believe and do righteous good deeds that for them will be Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise). Every time they will be provided with a fruit of gardens, they will say: "This is what we were provided with before," and they will be given things in resemblance (only in the form) and they shall have purified mates or wives, (having no menses, stools, urine) and they will abide therein forever.

39.  Those who disbelieve our messages and belie our revelations, are the dwellers of the Fire, they shall abide therein forever.

40. O Children of Israel! Remember My Favor which I bestowed upon you. If you and fulfill your obligations to My Covenant, I will fulfill mines and fear none but Me.

44. You Enjoin people to do righteousness and you forget to practice it yourselves, while you recite the Scripture (Torah)]! Have you then no sense?

51. And (remember) when we appointed for Musa (Moses) forty nights, and (in his absence) you took the calf (for worship), and you were wrong-doers.

67. And (remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his people: "Verily, Allah commands you that you slaughter a cow." They said, "Do you mock us?" He said, "May Allah keep me away from the ignorant or foolish people."

71. He [Musa (Moses)] said it is a cow neither trained to till the soil nor water the fields, sound, with one single color: bright yellow. They said, "Now you have brought the truth." So they slaughtered it though they were near to not doing it.

75Do you (faithful believers: Muslims) think that they will believe in your religion in spite of the fact that part of them (the Jews) used to hear the Word of Allah (Torah), to change it knowingly after they understood it?

85. after this, it is you who kill one another and drive out a party of you from their homes, assist against them, in sin and transgression. And if your people come to you as captives, you ransom them, although their expulsion was forbidden to you. Then do you believe in a part of the Scripture and reject the rest? Those who do so disserve disgrace and ignominy in the life of this world, and on the Day of Resurrection they shall be consigned to the most grievous torment. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

87. And indeed, we gave Musa (Moses) the Book and after him a succession of Messengers. And we gave 'Iesa (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), clear signs and supported him with the Holy Spirit. Is it that whenever there came to you a Messenger with what you yourselves desired not, you grew arrogant? Some, you disbelieved and some, you killed.

88. and they say, "Our hearts are wrapped". No, Allah has cursed them (the Jews) for their disbelief, their faith is mediocre.

89. And when there came to them (the Jews), a Book (this Qur'an) from Allah confirming what is with them (Torah) although aforetime they desired to have the supremacy over those who disbelieved, they disbelieved in it. So let the Curse of Allah be on the disbelievers.

99. And indeed we have sent down to you manifest proves and only perverse disbelieve in them.

100. Always when theymake a covenant, part of them throws it aside. The truth is that most of them are not believers.

101. And when there came to them a Messenger from Allah confirming what was with them, a party of those who were given the Scripture threw away the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know!

105. Neither those who disbelieve among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) nor the idolaters and, pagans like that there should be sent down unto you any good from your Lord. But Allah is the Owner of Great Bounty.

111. and they say, "None shall enter Paradise unless he is Jew or Christian." These are their chimerical desires. Say: "Produce your proof if you are truthful."

112. Yes, but whoever submits himself to Allah as a good-doer will be rewarded. On such shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

113. The Jews said that the Christians follow nothing; and the Christians said that the Jews follow nothing; though they both recite the Scripture. Those who know nothing say similar words. Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection.

116. and they say: Allah has begotten a son, Glory to Him. No, to Him belong all that is in the heavens and on earth, and all surrender with obedience to Him.

120.  The Jews and the Christians will ever be pleased with till you follow their religion. Say: "Verily, the Guidance of Allah is the true Guidance. And if you follow their (Jews and Christians) desires after what you have received of Knowledge then you would have against Allah neither any protector nor any helper.

125. And (remember) when we made the House (the Ka'bah in Mecca) a place of resort and safety for mankind. And take this place where Ibrahim (Abraham) stood as a place of worship. We commanded Abraham and Ishmael that they should purify My House (the Ka'bah in Mecca) for those who are circumambulating it, or bowing or prostrating themselves there.

133.  Were you witnesses when death approached Jacob and when he said to his sons, "What will you worship after me?" They said, "We shall worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac, to whom we submit."

140. or say you that Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and the twelve sons of Jacob were Jews or Christians? (*) Say, "Do you know better what Allah knows?  Who is more unjust than the one who conceals a testimony from Allah? And Allah is aware of what you do."

(*) The Jewish word (from the tribe of Judah) did not exist at the time of Abraham and Christianity was introduced with Christ.

170. When it is said to them: "Follow what Allah has sent down." They say: "No! We shall follow what our fathers following followed." Even if their fathers did not understand (*) anything and were misguided?

(*) The understanding is often mentioned in the Qur'an while religion involves faith.

171. The disbelievers are as a flock of sheep on which we shout and which only hear calls and cries. They are deaf, dumb and blind, they do not understand.

174. Those who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book and sell it at low price, eat into their bellies nothing but fire. Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection will not purify them and they will suffer a painful torment.

190. Fight in the Way of Allah those who fight you and not transgress the limits. Truly, Allah likes not the transgressors.

191. And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. The idolatry is worst than murder.

193. And fight them until there are no more disbelievers and that the remaining religion is only that of Allah.  If they cease then no more hostility except against the unfair ones.

211. Ask the Children of Israel how many clear miracles we made for them. But whoever changes after Allah's Favor came to him... then surely Allah is Severe in punishment.

213. (Initially)Mankind was one (believing) community and after their division Allah sent Prophets as annunciators and admonishers and with them He sent the Scripture of truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed. But those to whom (the Scripture) was given differed after they received clear proofs, by spirit of rivalry. Then Allah by His Grace guided those who believed to the truth on which the others disagreed. And Allah guides whom He wills to the Straight Path.

216. Holy fighting is ordained for you (Muslims) though you dislike it. It may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows but you do not know.

Say, "Fighting therein is a great transgression but a greater transgression is to prevent mankind from following the Way of Allah, to disbelieve in Him, to prevent access to the Holy Mosque in Mecca and to drive out its inhabitants."Idolatry is worst than murdering." And they will never cease fighting you until they turn you back from your religion if they can.

Verses on Women: 222 to 228

------------------------------

246. Did you know that a group of leaders of the Children of Israel after (the time of) Musa (Moses) ask a Prophet of theirs, "Appoint for us a king and we will fight in Allah's Way." He said, "Would you then refrain from fighting, if fighting was prescribed for you?" They said, "Why should we not fight in Allah's Way while we have been driven out of our homes and our children (families have been taken as captives)?" But when fighting was ordered for them, they turned away, all except a few of them. And Allah is All-Aware of the wrong-doers.

247. And their Prophet said to them, "Indeed Allah has appointed Talut (*) as a king over you." They said, "How can he be a king over us when we are better fitted than him for the kingdom, and he has not been given enough wealth."He said: "Verily, Allah has chosen him above you and has increased him abundantly in knowledge and stature. And Allah grants His Kingdom to whom He wills. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower."

249. Then when Talut (*) set out with the army, he said: "Verily! Allah will try you by a river. So whoever drinks thereof, he is not anymore mine, and whoever does not taste it not will be mine except who takes water in the hollow of his hand." Yet, they drank thereof all except a few of them. So when he had crossed the river, he and those who believed with him, they said: "We have no power this day against Goliath and his troops." But those who knew with certainty that they were to meet their Lord, said: "How often a small group overcame a mighty troop by Allah's Leave?" And Allah is with the enduring believers.

(*)It seems that there is confusion between the story of Gideon who defeated the Midianites and Saul who fought the Philistines.

Verses on trade

276. Allah will destroy the usury and will increase the deeds of charity. And Allah does not like the disbelievers and sinners.

282. O you who believe! When you contract a debt for a fixed period, write it down. Let a scribe write it down in justice between you. Let not the scribe refuses to write as Allah has taught him, so let him write.

Let him (the debtor) who incurs the liability dictate, and he must fear Allah, his Lord, and diminish not anything of what he owes. But if the debtor is of poor understanding, or weak, or is unable himself to dictate, then let his guardian dictate in justice. And get two witnesses out of your own men. But take witnesses whenever you make a commercial contract. Let neither scribe nor witness suffer any harm, but if you do (such harm), it would be wickedness in you. So be afraid of Allah; and Allah teaches you. And Allah is the All-Knower of each and everything.

SURAH 3 - AL IMRAN (The Family of Imran)

200 verses - 37 excerpts of verses retained

Imran is Amram the father of Moses and the grandson of Levy son of Jacob. The Qur'an gives a great importance to the family of Amram in which in addition to Moses, it would surprisingly include according to the Qur'an Mary, Jesus and John the Baptist.

The Qur'an also states that Abraham and Ishmael went to Mecca to build the Kaaba.

The Qur'an makes a deliberate confusion between who submitted to God that he calls abusively Muslim (submitted) similarly to anyone submitted to God through the Qur'an and thus refers to Abraham as a Muslim. In the same way we might call Moses or Jesus Muslims; then if Abraham was a Muslim, Jews and Christians are also Muslims since respect the Koran would no longer be a prerequisite to Islam and the word Muslim would lose its meaning.

96. The first House appointed for mankind was that at Bakkah (Mecca) full of blessing and a good guidance for the Universe.

97. In it are manifest signs including the place where Abraham stood; whosoever enters it is in security. And pilgrimage to Mecca is a duty that mankind owes to Allah for whom can afford its expenses.; and whoever disbelieves... then Allah stands not in need of any of the mankind.

99. Say: "O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Why do you stop those who believe and put hurdles on the Path of Allah despite you are witness of the truth! And Allah is not unaware of what you do."

100. O you who believe! If you obey a group of those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians), they would render you disbelievers after you had believed!

110. You are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin the adequate and forbid the wrong and believe in Allah. And had the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are perverse.

112. Wherever they are, Indignity is put over them, unless Allah help them or under a covenant with mankind. They have drawn on themselves the Wrath of Allah, and misfortune is put over them. This is because they disbelieved in the signs of Allah and killed the Prophets without right. This is because they disobeyed and used to transgress.

121. When in the morning you (Muhammad) left your household to post the believers at their stations for the battle and Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.

127. To destroy the disbelievers or to humiliate them by the defeat so that they retire frustrated.

131. and fear the Fire, which is prepared for the disbelievers.

139. So do not be defeated, nor be sad because you are superior if you are true believers.

141. And that Allah may test (or purify) the believers (from sins) and destroy the disbelievers.

152. And Allah indeed fulfilled His Promise to you when you were killing them tirelessly with His Permission; until you lost your courage and fell to disputing about the given order, and disobeyed after He showed you the victory which you love...

156. O you who believe! Be not like those who disbelieve and who say to their brethren when they travel through the earth or go out to fight: "If they had stayed with us, they would not have died or been killed." Allah made it a cause of regret in their hearts. It is Allah that gives life and causes death. And Allah is All-Seer of what you do.

157. and if you are killed in the Way of Allah or die, forgiveness and mercy from Allah are far better than all that they amass.

169. Think not of those who were killed in the Way of Allah as dead. They are alive, with their Lord, and they will be well provided.

185. Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment.

192. "Our Lord! Whom you admit to the Fire, indeed, you have disgraced him. And for the wrong-doers there are no helpers.

SURAH 4 - AN -NISA (The Women)

176 verses - 23 excerpts of verses retained

This Surah is about women and orphans. The Qur'an introduces a fair share of the inheritance and the payment of alimony to divorced women. A man may have up to four wives.

It indicates that if the divorced woman is found ineffectual, the man must be her guardian (verse 5). Men should have a significant descent (verse 9). The Qur'an lays down rules on marriageable women or not.

The man has a natural authority over women and has the right to punish particularly in beating them (verse 34).

But quickly most verses of this Surah as those of Surah 2, point out hatred of Jews which is called today "anti-Semitism".

In verse 17, the incompatibility between Christianity is Islam is clarified despite various references to the Gospels.

In verse 157 the Qur'an recognizes that the Jews did not kill Christ but accuses them to have pretended to have killed him that is to say that whatever is made a charge is replaced with another.

Excerpts of verses

4. And give to wives their Mahr (alimony) with a good heart, but if they, of their own good pleasure, remit any part of it to you, take it, and enjoy it.

7. There is a share for men and a share for women from what is left by parents and the nearest relatives, whether, the property is small or large - a legal share.(see verse 11)

9. And let those who had left weak offspring behind shall have the same fear in their minds as they would have for their own. So let them fear Allah and speak right words.

15. And those of your women, who fornicate, take the evidence of four witnesses from amongst you against them; and if they testify, confine these women in your houses until their death or until Allah ordains for them some other way.

19. O you who believe! You are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Do not prevent theme to remarry in order not to take back what you gave them (Mahr) unless they have committed a proven sin.

34. Men have authority on women as a result of the favors granted to the men by Allah and also because of their spending to support the women. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient to their husbands and protect in the husband's absence what must be protected with the support of Allah. If you fear that some women could be disobedient admonish them, refuse to share their beds and beat them.

46. among those who are Jews, there are some who give words a wrong meaning and say: "We had heard your word and we have disobeyed," and "Hear and let you hear nothing; but Allah has cursed them for their disbelief; their faith is thus mediocre.

52. They are those whom Allah has cursed, and whom Allah curses, will never find for him any helper,

56. Surely! Those who disbelieved in our verses (Qur'an) we shall burn them soon in Fire. As often as their skins are roasted through, we shall change them for other skins in order that they may taste the punishment. Truly, Allah is Ever Most Powerful, All-Wise.

74. Let the believers fight in the Cause of Allah, they may sell the life of this world for the Hereafter. And whoever fights in the Cause of Allah, and is killed or gets victory, we shall bestow on him a great reward.

77. "Our Lord! Why have you ordained for us fighting? Why did not you postpone it a little later? Say: "Short is the enjoyment of this world but the life in the Hereafter is better for the pious people and you shall not be treated unfairly even not by a thread of a date-stone.

84. Fight in the Cause of Allah, you will not be held responsible except for yourself, and incite the believers (to fight), Allah will stop the violence of the disbelievers.  Allah is Stronger in Might and Stronger in punishing.

144. O you who believe! Abstain having any relation with disbelievers instead of believers. Do you wish to offer Allah a manifest proof against yourselves?

150. Verily, those who disbelieve in Allah and His Messengers and wish to make distinction between Allah and His Messengers and say: "We believe in some but reject others," and wish to adopt a way in between the belief and the disbelief...

151. ...they are in truth disbelievers and we have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating torment.

153. The people of the Scripture (Jews) ask you to cause a book to descend upon them from heaven. Indeed they asked Moses for even more enormous than that, when they said: "Show us Allah in public," but they were struck with thunder clap and lightning for their wickedness. Then they worshipped the calf even after clear proofs, had come to them. We forgave them and gave Moses a clear authority.

155. we have cursed them all because of their breaking the covenant, and of their rejecting the revelation of Allah, and of their unfair killing the Prophets and of their saying: "Our hearts are wrapped and closed". Verily, Allah has set a seal upon their hearts because of their disbelief because they believed not but a little.

156. And because of their (Jews) disbelief and calumny against Mary.

157. (*) And because of their saying "We really killed Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah,"(**) but they did not kill him, nor crucified him; it was only a fake appearance! (**), and those who differ therein are really full of doubts: They have no certain knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. Surely they did not kill him.

(*) The Qur'an recognizes that the Jews did not kill Christ but God omnipotent brought him back to him. The Qur'an accuses the Jews to claim the murder of Christ then (**), and thus the Jews are charged anyway of guiltiness whatever they did.

158. But Allah raised Jesus up unto Himself. And Allah is Ever All-Powerful, All-Wise.

160. For the wrong-doing of the Jews, We made unlawful to them certain good foods which were lawful to them, and also for their hindering many from Allah's Way;

161. And because their taking of usurious interests though they were forbidden from taking it and because of their devouring unlawful of people's substance. We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful torment.

Clarification concerning the incompatibility between Islam and Christianity

171. O people of the Scripture (Christians)! Do not exceed the limits in your religion and say only the truth regarding Allah. The Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, was no more than a Messenger of Allah and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary and a breath of life (ruh) created by Him; so believe in Allah and His Messengers. Do not Say: "Three (trinity)!" Cease! It is better for you.  Allah is the only One God. He is too glorious to have a son. To Him belong all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth And Allah is All-Sufficient as protector.SURAH 5 - AL MA'IDAH (The Table Spread with Food)

120 verses - 34 excerpts of verses retained

This Surah should concern the description of allowed food, but eventually the verses on this subject are limited and the curses of Jews and Christians by promising them a severe punishment are back.

However reproach to Christians is more specific and relates to the trinity that challenges monotheism because according to the Qur'an, Jesus was just a messenger.

Verse 33 is violent and evokes the type of tortures to death practiced today by ISIS. Those who do not believe in Allah will be killed or crucified or their hands and opposite leg will be cut.

Verse 82 clarifies the degree of hatred of Jews and Christians; Jews and Christians are hated, but Jews more than the Christians. The Qur'an even imagines that the Jews say of God that he is not generous (verse 64) what constitutes an unacceptable criticism of Judaism to which God is at the center of its religion and liturgy; the Qur'an says that the Jews David and Jesus would have cursed their own people and thus themselves; cursing is not normally a part of the teaching of Jesus (verse 78).

Verses 20 and 21 say that it is the will of God to build a link between the land of Canaan and the people of Israel.  Questioning the return of the Jewish people to their land would not be Qur'anic. Other verses confirm this link between Israel and his land.

Excerpts of verses

2. - and do not let the hatred of people in who hinder you to go to the Holy Mosque in Mecca, lead you to transgression. Help you one another to achieve the good acts and but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Severe in punishment.

3. ...Forbidden to you (for food) are: the dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and the food on which Allah's Name has not been mentioned, and that which has been killed by strangling, or dead after a headlong fall, or by the goring of horns - and that which has been partly eaten by a wild animal - except the animal you slay before its death. This day, those who disbelieved have given up all hope to drive you out of your religion...

6. O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salat (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, and rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to ankles...

12. Indeed Allah took the covenant from the Children of Israel...

13. So because of their breach of their covenant, we cursed them, and made their hearts grow hard. They change the words from their right meaning and forgot a part of the Message that was sent to them. And you will not cease to discover deceit in them.

14. and from those who call themselves Christians, We took their covenant, but they have forgotten a part of the Message that was sent to them. So we planted amongst them enmity and hatred till the Day of Resurrection and Allah will inform them of what they used to do.

17. Surely, in disbelief are those who say that Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary. Say: "Who then has the least power against Allah, if He wanted to destroy the Messiah, son of Mary, as well as his mother, and all those who are on the earth together?"

And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them. He creates what He wills. And Allah is Able to do all things.

18. And (both) the Jews and the Christians say: "We are the children of Allah and His loved ones." Say: "Why then does He punish you for your sins?" you are human beings, of those He has created; He forgives whom He wills and He punishes whom He wills...

20. And (remember) when Moses said to his people: "O my people! Remember the Favor of Allah to you, when He made Prophets among you. He made you kings, and gave you what He had not given to any other.

21. "O my people! Enter the holy land which Allah has assigned to you, and do not turn back in flight for then you will be returned as losers."

24. They said: "O Moses! We shall never enter it as long as they are there. So go you and your Lord and fight you two, we are sitting right here."

25. He [Moses] said: "O my Lord! I have power only over myself and my brother, so separate us from this people who are rebellious and disobedient.

32. Because of that we ordained for the Children of Israel that if anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder or corruption it would be as if he killed all mankind. And if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind.

And indeed, there came to them Our Messengers came to them with clear proofs, even then after that many of them continued to exceed the limits on earth.

33. The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and made act of corruption, is  only that they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off on the opposite sides, or be exiled from the land. That is their disgrace in this world, and a great torment is theirs in the Hereafter.

38. Cut off the hand of the thief, male or female, as punishment for what they committed and as punishment in the name of Allah. Allah is All-Powerful, All-Wise.

43. but why they will ask you to be their judge while they have the Torah, in which is the Judgment of Allah? And even after that, they reject your judgment. They are not believers.

46. And we sent after them Jesus, son of Mary, confirming the content of the Torah that had come before him, and we gave him the Gospel in which was guidance and light to confirm the content of the Torah that had come before it and a guidance and an admonition for the pious.

47. Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein. And whosoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed are the rebellious.

51. O you who believe! Do not ally with the Jews and the Christians they are allied together. And if any amongst you takes them as ally then surely becomes one of them.  Allah does not guide the unjust people.

59. Say: "O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Do you criticize us for any other reason that we believe in Allah, and in the revelation which has been sent down to us and was sent down before us.  But most of you are rebellious and perverse.

63. Why do not the rabbis and the religious learned men do not forbid them from uttering sinful words and from eating illegal gains? Evil indeed is that which they have been performing.

64. The Jews say: "Allah's Hand is tied up." Be their hands tied up and be they accursed for what they uttered...

66. If only they had acted according to the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been sent down to them from their Lord, they would surely have benefited from what is above them and from underneath their feet.

 68. Say "O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! You have nothing till you do not act according to the Torah and to the Gospel, and to what has been sent down to you from your Lord." Verily, that which has been sent down to you from your Lord will increase in many of them their rebellion and disbelief...

70. Verily, We took the covenant of the Children of Israel and sent them, Messengers. Whenever a Messenger came to them with what they do not desire, they called certain of them liars, and killed others.

72. Surely, they are disbelievers those who say: "Verily Allah is the Messiah son of Mary." But the Messiah said: "O Children of Israel Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, then Allah forbids the Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the wrong-doers there are no helpers.

73. Surely, disbelievers are those who said: "Allah is the third of the three (Trinity)." But there is one single god. And if they do not cease from to say it, , a painful torment will befall these disbelievers.

75. The Messiah son of Mary was no more than a Messenger; many were the Messengers that passed away before him. His mother Mary)] was a believer. They both ate food. Look how See how we show them clearly the proofs and see they remained away from the truth.

78. Those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of David and Jesus, son of Mary. That was because they disobeyed and were transgressing.

82. Verily, you will find that the Jews are the strongest enemies among men to the believers. And you will find that the nearest in love to the believers (Muslims) are those who say: "We are Christians." That is because amongst them are priests and monks who are not full of proud.

86. But those who disbelieved and belied our verses are the dwellers of the Fire.

104. And when it is said to them: "Come to what Allah has revealed and unto the Messenger." They say: "Enough for us is that which we found our fathers following," even though their fathers had no knowledge whatsoever and were not on the right way.

116. And (remember) when Allah will say: "O Jesus, son of Mary! Did you say to people: 'Worship me and my mother as two gods besides Allah?' "He will say: "Glory to you! It was not for me to say what I had no right to say. Had I said such a thing, you would surely have known it.

SURAH 6 - AL AN'AM (The Cattle)

165 verses - 14 excerpts of verses retained

Cattle are mentioned in verses 138, 142 and 145 in particular. The rest are repetition of verses other Surah such as God chose the prophet to bring mankind the book of truth and those who doubt are unbelievers who will have a severe punishment.

In verse 146 it says that the Kosher (lawful food for Jews) is very restrictive dietary laws in order to punish the Jews.

Verses 25, 39 and 125 underline an essential point: God being omnipotent, those who do not follow the Qur'an were chosen by God to be deaf and blind because God gives truth to whom he wants.

The disbelievers and polytheists have been led astray by God and so one can assume that they do not commit any wrongdoing since they follow the path omnipotent that God has chosen for them.

This type of omnipotence challenges the right and the wrong by absence of free will of mankind.

Excerpts of verses

1. All praises and thanks to Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth, and originated the darkness and the light, yet those who disbelieve hold others as equal with their Lord.

4. and never any sign come to them from the signs of their Lord, because they turned away from it.

5. Indeed, they say that the truth is a lie when it came to them, but they will have news of whom they used to mock at.

6. Have they not seen how many a generation before them we have destroyed to whom we had given power on earth such as we have not gave you?

7. And even if we had sent down unto you (O Muhammad) a Message written on paper so that they could touch with their hands, the disbelievers would have said: "This is nothing but obvious magic!"

15. Say: "I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the torment of a redoubtable Day."

25. And of them there are some who listen to you; but we have set veils on their hearts, so they do not understand the Qur'an and deafness in their ears; if they see all kind of proofs they will not believe therein; and when they come to you to argue with you, the disbelievers say then: "These are nothing but tales of the men of old time."

39. Those who say that our verses are a lie are deaf and dumb in darkness. Allah sends astray whom He wills and He guides on the Straight Path whom He wills.

49. But those who reject our proofs the torment will touch them for their perverseness....

92. And this (the Qur'an) is a blessed Book which we have sent down, confirming what came before it, so that you may warn the Mother of Towns ( Mecca) and all those around it. Those who believe in the Hereafter believe in (the Qur'an), and they are constant in guarding their Salat (prayers).

102. Such is Allah, your Lord! None has the right to be worshipped but Him, the Creator of all things. So worship Him (Alone), and He is Disposer over all things.

116. and if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah's Path. They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but lie.

125. And whomsoever Allah wills to guide, He opens his breast to Islam, and whomsoever He wills to send astray, He makes his breast closed and constricted, as if he is climbing up to the sky. Thus Allah puts the wrath on those who do not believe.

146. and unto those who are Jews, We forbade every (animal) with undivided hoof, and we forbade them the fatness except what adheres to their backs or their entrails, or is mixed up with a bone. Thus we have punished them for their rebellion. And verily, we are Truthful.

SURAH 7 - AL-A'RAF

206 verses - 35 excerpts of verses retained

In this Surah is reminded again that all people must follow the Qur'anic teaching and be humble. The unbelievers will have for them hell and the good doers following the Qur'an will go to Paradise.

Pride does not open the gates of Paradise and an expression of the Gospels which focused on rich people is applied to the proud people who will enter Paradise until a camel pass through the eye of a needle.

Then it is said to believe the Messenger of Allah because in the past many were those who were killed or punished because they did not believe him.

Fist Adam disobeyed and was punished and then the people of Noah was punished except himself and then the people living with Lot and committing sins were destroyed but he was saved.

Then Pharaoh who did not want to listen to Moses was punished. Then among the people of Israel some worshiped the golden calf, and were punished...

We must therefore understand that those who do not follow the Qur'an will be also punished. The punishments are particularly violent:

Verse 124: I will cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all "and ISIS could have found there their inspiration when they crucified recently Iraqi Christians.

Excerpts of verses

 40. Those that belie our lessons and treat them with arrogance, for them the gates of heaven will not be opened, and they will not enter Paradise until the camel goes through the eye of the needle. Thus do we recompense the criminals?

71. He said: "Torment and wrath have already fallen on you from your Lord. Will you dispute you with me over names which you and your fathers have named, with no proof from Allah? Then wait!  I am also with you among those who wait."

72. So we saved him and those who were with him by a Mercy from us, and we have exterminated those who belied our lessons and they were not believers.

80. And Lot he said to his people: "Do you commit the worst sin such as none preceding you has committed?

81. "Verily, you practice your lusts on men instead of women. You are a transgressing people."

82. And the answer of his people was only that they said: "Drive them out of your town these are indeed men who want to remain pure!"

83. Then we saved him and his family, except his wife; she was of those who remained in the torment.

103. Then after these messengers we sent Moses with Our miracles to Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they acted wrongfully regarding our signs. So think to the end of the mischief-makers.

104. And Moses said: "O Pharaoh! I am a Messenger from the Lord of the Universe.

105. "Proper it is for me that I say nothing concerning Allah but the truth. Indeed I have come unto you from our Lord with a clear proof. So let the Children of Israel go along with me."

124. "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and then I will crucify you all."

125. They said: "Verily, we will return to our Lord.

127. The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: "Will you leave Moses and his people to spread mischief in the land and to abandon you and your gods?" He said: "We will kill their sons, and let live their women, and we will have indeed an absolute power over them."

128. Moses said to his people: "Seek help in Allah and be patient because the earth is owned by Allah. He makes on earth what he wants among his servants and the end will be happy for the pious."

129. They said: "We were persecuted before you came to us, and since you have come to us." He said: "It may be that your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you successors on the earth and that He will see after how you act?"

132. They said: "Whatever the miracle you may bring to us, to fascinate us, we shall not believe in you."

133. We sent on them: the flood, the locusts, the lice, the frogs, and the blood as explicit signs, but they became arrogant, and remained a criminal people.

134. And when the punishment fell on them they said: "O Moses! Invoke your Lord for us because of His Promise to you. If you will remove the punishment from us, we indeed shall believe in you, and we shall let the Children of Israel go with you."

135. but when we removed the punishment from them to a fixed term, which they had to reach, beholds! They broke their word!

136. So we revenged on them. We drowned them in the sea, because they belied our signs and were heedless about them.

141. Remember when we rescued you from Pharaoh's people, who were afflicting you with the worst torment. They exterminated your sons and let your women alive. That was a great trial from your Lord.

142. And we appointed for Moses thirty nights that we increased by ten and Moses was appointed by his Lord for forty nights. And Moses said to his brother Aaron: "Replace me among my people, act in the Right Way and do not follow the way of the mischief-makers."

144. (Allah) said: "O Moses I have chosen you above all men by My Messages, and by my speaking (to you). So hold that which I have given you and be of the grateful."

145. and we wrote for him on the Tablets the lesson to be drawn from all things and the explanation of all things: Hold unto these with firmness, and enjoin your people to take the better therein. I shall show you soon the home of the rebellious.

148. And the people Moses worshiped in his absence the calf made of their ornaments as if it was mooing. Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor guide them to anywhere? They took it for worship and they were wrong-doers.

149. And when they regretted and saw that they had gone astray, they said: "If our Lord have not mercy upon us and forgive us, we shall certainly be of the losers."

151. Moses said: "O my Lord! Forgive me and my brother, and make us enter into Your Mercy, for you are the Most Merciful of those who show mercy."

152. Certainly, those who took the calf (for worship), wrath from their Lord and humiliation will come upon them in the life of this world. So we recompense those who invent idols.

154. and when the anger of Moses was appeased, he took up the Tablets, and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who fear their Lord.

182. Those who belie our lessons, we shall gradually drive them to their loss by ways they ignore.

196. "Verily, my master is Allah who has revealed the Book (the Qur'an), and He protects the righteous."

197. "And those whom you call upon besides Him cannot help you nor can they can help themselves."

203. And if you do not bring them miracles they say: "Why have you not brought it?" Say: "I but follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This (the Qur'an) is nothing but evidences from your Lord, and a guidance and a mercy for those who believe."

204. so when the Qur'an is recited, listen to it, and be silent that you may receive mercy (of Allah).

SURAH 8- AL-ANFAL (The Spoils of War) (*)

75 verses (*) 19 excerpts of verses retained

(*) The Qur'an as a Combat Guide

The spoils are the properties and goods taken from the disbelievers when they are defeated, but also when a caravan is attacked (verse 42). The Qur'an gives rules on sharing the spoils of war or holy war (verse 41). Retreat can be used as a fight stratagem.Violence is present in many verses: Hit so over the necks (verse 12). In this case, striking above the neck is reached the face; it is also said to strike the neck which could correspond to the slaughter or beheading as this IS applied by ISIS or other Islamists.

Furthermore, the Qur'an says: It's not you who kill the enemies but Allah (verse 17) cancelling then any guiltiness feelings for the murders committed by believers.

Allah is the best of planners (verse 30) while yet omnipotence does not need tricks.

To maintain the courage of believers Allah shows the disbelievers in smaller number that they are in reality (trick) in verse 43 instead of just giving them courage by his omnipotence.

Angels take the souls of unbelievers and beat them (verse 50). Taking captives is not necessary as long as the disbelievers survive (verse 67). Fight until there remains only the religion of Allah (verse 39) and a prophet should not make captives as long as his religion does not dominate.

Excerpts of verses:

1. They ask you about the spoils of war. Say: "The spoils are for Allah and his Messenger." So fear Allah and adjust all matters of difference among you, and obey Allah and His Messenger if you are believers.

12. Your Lord inspired the angels, "I am with you, so keep firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. So strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes."

13. This is because they disobeyed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, and then verily, Allah is Severe in punishment.

14. this is the torment, so taste it, and surely for the disbelievers is the torment of the Fire.

15. O you who believe! When you meet those who disbelieve, in a battle-field, never turn your backs to them.

16and whoever turns his back to them on such a day - unless it is a stratagem of war, or to retreat to a troop (of his own), - he indeed has drawn upon himself wrath from Allah. And his abode is Hell; what a bad destination!

17. You did not kill them but Allah killed them. Verily, Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.

18. This is the fact and surely, Allah destroys the plots of the disbelievers.

30. And (remember) when the disbelievers plotted against you to imprison you, or to kill you, or to banish you; they were plotting and Allah foiled their plots, and Allah is the Best in the field of stratagems.

39. And fight them until there is no more disbelief and that the religion will be only that of Allah in the world.

41. And know that whatever of war-booty that you may gain, one-fifth of it is assigned to Allah, and to the Messenger, and his near relatives and to the orphans, the poor people and the wayfarers in distress.

42. When you (the Muslim army) were on the near side of the valley, and they on the farther side, and the caravan on the ground lower than you.

43. (And remember) when Allah showed them to you as few in your dream, if He had shown them to you as many as they were, you would surely have been discouraged, and you would surely have disputed in making a decision...

45. O you who believe! When you meet (an enemy) force, take a firm stand against them and invoke the Name of Allah much so that you may be successful.

50. and if you could see when the angels take away the souls of those who disbelieve, they smite their faces and their backs, (saying): "Taste the punishment of the blazing Fire."

59. And let not those who disbelieve think that they can outstrip. Verily, they will never be able to escape at any moment.

60. and make ready to fight against them all the power you can including steeds of war to threaten the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others besides whom, you may not know but whom Allah does know.

65. O Prophet incites the believers to fight. If there are twenty steadfast persons amongst you, they will defeat two hundred, and if there be a hundred steadfast persons they will defeat a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they are people who do not understand.

67. A Prophet should never make prisoners until he wins and incapacitates the disbelievers on earth.

SURAH 9-AT TAWBAH(The Repentance)

129 verses - 18 excerpts of verses retained

This Surah is particularly redundant with the content of others: God is omniscient, omnipotent, forgiving, and severe in punishment. We must follow his path and disbelievers and polytheists have no hope but hell. The Qur'an is usually repetitive.

It is said that it is a duty to kill all the idolaters (polytheists), which is again a call to murder and stretch their ambushes (verse 5).

The verb "to fight" is widely used in the Qur'an and Islam appears to be a fighting religion. In verse 23, the Qur'an insists that faith is superior in value to the family and that no consideration must be shown for fathers and brothers who have no faith. Thus even today families have no influence on their children under influence to enroll for the jihad; this is the result of the rules of the Qur'an.

Without arguments the Qur'an invents some. Qur'an says that Jews say that UZAYR is the son of God (verse 30), UZAYR is an invented character and the principle of God 'son is opposed to the strict monotheism of Judaism which genera ted among others the anti-Judaism of "the Church." Uzair would be Ezra but Ezra is a simple prophet. The Qur'an abuses in this way by saying that rabbis, priests and monks are also considered as gods (verse 31) and verse 33 reiterates that Islam is the only religion acceptable and appears therefore as the religion of intolerance. In verse 34, it says that the rabbis and monks devour the wealth of mankind.

The Quran then attacks the Bedouins (verses 90, 97, 101) and described them as the most hypocritical and the biggest disbelievers, which could perhaps explain the bad lot they have to suffer in Arab countries until today.

Verse 101 is significant today in particular concerning the conflict between Sunnis and Shiites since it is said that mosques should not be built in a spirit of discord and rivalry. The conflict goes thus against the spirit of the Qur'an.

 Excerpts of verses

3. And a declaration from Allah and His Messenger to mankind on the day of the great pilgrimage that Allah repudiates the wrong-doers and disbelievers. If you repent, it is better for you, but if you turn away, then knows that the power of Allah is the same and you will not escape to his painful punishment.

5. After the holy months kill the wring-doers wherever they are.  Capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them ambushes..

13. Will you not fight a people who have violated their oaths and intended to ban the Messenger, while they did attack you first? Do you fear them? Allah has more right that you should fear Him, if you are believers.

14. Fight against them so that Allah will punish them by your hands and disgrace them and give you victory over them and heal the breasts of a believing people,

23. O you who believe! Take not for allies your fathers and your brothers if they prefer disbelieve. And whoever of you takes them as allies...are wrong-doers.

30. And the Jews say: 'Uzair (*) is the son of Allah, and the Christians say: Jesus is the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouths. They imitate the saying of the disbelievers before them. May Allah kill them! How they are deluded away from the truth!

31. They (Jews and Christians) took their rabbis and their monks and Jesus to be their lords besides Allah, when those were ordained to worship one single God. No other God but Allah. Glory is to him. He is far above those who associate to him others.

 33. It is He Who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, to make it superior over all religions even though the  disbelievers in the Oneness hate it.

34. O you who believe! Many of the rabbis and the monks devour the wealth of mankind in falsehood, and hinder (them) from the Way of Allah. Those who hoard up gold and silver and do not spend them in the Way of Allah, announce unto them a painful torment.

39. If you do not fight, He will punish you with a painful torment and will replace you by another people, and you cannot harm Him at all, and Allah is Able to do all things.

41. Fight whether you are light or heavy and strive hard with your wealth and your lives in the Cause of Allah. This is better for you, if you but knew.

89. for them Allah has got ready Gardens under which rivers flow, to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success.

90. among the Bedouins, some came to you, asking your permission to be exempted from the fighting. A painful torment will seize those of them who disbelieve.

97. The Bedouins are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, and more likely to be in ignorance of Allah's Commandments which Allah has revealed to His Messenger. And Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise.

98. Among the Bedouins there are some who look upon what they spend (in Allah's Cause) as a heavy burden and expect for you a misfortune. The misfortune will fall on them. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.

101. and among the Bedouins round about you, some are hypocrites, and so are some among the people of Medina. They persist in hypocrisy, you do not know them but we know them all. We shall punish them twice, and thereafter they shall be brought back to a great torment.

107. and as for those who build a mosque in order to disunite the believers by rivalry and impiety, and as an outpost for those who fought Allah and His Messenger aforetime, they wear that their intention is nothing but good. Allah bears witness that they are liars.

123. O you who believe! Fight those of the disbelievers who are close to you, and let them find harshness in you. And know that Allah is with those who are the pious.SURAH 10 - YUNUS (Jonah)

109 verses - 8 excerpts of verses were retained

This Surah is called Jonas and there is no question of him except in verse 98 which shows that God can forgive those who repent but this verse is a reference that can only be understood by those who know the history of Jonas.

This Surah like the others includes the repetitive threats against those who do not believe in the Quran and who said that the prophet has invented all. In verse 13 it is said that God does not hesitate to destroy the generations who did not believe his messengers.

As the verses 20 and 21 of Surah 5, verse 87, 90 and 93 confirm the link between the people of Israel and the Promised Land. It can be concluded that the believers should not oppose God's will. These verses have a particular weight in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Arab religious parties should not call Palestine a "Waqf" (land of Islam)

Excerpts of verses

7. Those who do not hope to meet us and are satisfied with the life of the present world where feel safe and those who are heedless of our signs (or verses).

8. Their abode will be the Fire, because of what they used to earn.

13. and indeed, we destroyed generations before you, when they did wrong while their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they were not prepared to believe! Thus we requite the criminal people.

37. And this Qur'an is not produced by other than Allah but it is a confirmation of which was before it and a full explanation of the Book wherein there is no doubt from the Lord of the Universe.

38. Or do they say: "He (Muhammad has forged it." Say: "Bring then a Surah like unto it, and call for help upon whomsoever you can besides Allah, if you are truthful!"

87. And we inspired Moses and his brother: "Take dwellings for your people in Egypt, and make your dwellings as places for your worship, and pray regularly and give glad tiding to the believers."

88. And Moses said: "Our Lord! You have indeed bestowed on Pharaoh and his chiefs, splendor and wealth in the life of this world. Our Lord! With them they may lead men astray from Your Path. Our Lord! Destroy their wealth, and harden their hearts, so that they will not believe until they see the painful torment."

90. and we took the Children of Israel across the sea and Pharaoh with his troops followed them in oppression and enmity. When drowning overtook him, he said: "I believe that there is no other God that the God in Whom the Children of Israel believed and I am submitted to God."

93. Indeed we settled the Children of Israel in an honorable dwelling place and provided them with good things. They did not differ until the knowledge came to them. Your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection in that in which they used to differ.

SURAH 11 - HUD (Prophet Hood)

123 verses - 7 excerpts of verses retained

HUD would be Heber descendant of Shem, great grandson of Noah and is a character of Genesis. His name has the same root as the word "Hebrew" comes the word nomadic (the one who passes). The Qur'an associates it Ad (people of Arabia). The people of Ad who did not believe Heber (messenger of God) died.

Excerpts of verses

2. Worship none but Allah. I am unto you from Him a Warner and an annunciator.

4. to Allah is your return and He is Able to do all things."

50. And we send to the 'Ad people their brother Hud. He said, "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other God but Him. Certainly, you do nothing but liars!

53. They said: "O Hud! No evidence have you brought us, and we shall not leave our gods for your word and we do not believe you.

58. and when Our Commandment came, we saved Hud and those who believed with him and we saved them from a severe torment.

59. Such were 'Ad people. They rejected the signs (the lessons) of their Lord and disobeyed His Messengers, and followed the command of every obstinate oppressor.

60. And they were pursued by a curse in this world and on the Day of Resurrection. Verily, Ad people disbelieved their Lord. So away with (die) the Ad people, people of Hud.

SURAH 12 - YUSUF (Prophet Joseph)

111 verses - 21 excerpts of verses retained

According to verse 2 the Quran is in Arabic so that everyone understands it and so it was for those who speak Arabic. The Qur'an relates the history of Jacob i.e. Israel and his son Joseph and his eleven brothers who together make up the 12 tribes of Israel. It explains how Joseph's brothers behaved badly towards him and towards their father Jacob.

A comment is mentioned on the perversity of women whose Joseph was a victim.Joseph was inspired by God and was gaining importance in Egypt where he brought his family to protect them from starvation. Jacob ancestors are Abraham and Isaac as mentioned in the Bible.

Excerpts of verses

2.  We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an in order that you may understand.

4. When Joseph said to his father: "O my father! I saw (in a dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon, I saw them prostrating themselves to me."

5. "O my son! Do not relate your vision to your brothers since they would arrange a plot against you. Verily! The Devil is to man an open enemy!

6. "Thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of dreams and spread His Favor on you and on the offspring of Jacob, as He did it on your fathers Abraham and Isaac aforetime! Your Lord is All-Knowing, All-Wise."

8. When they said: "Joseph and his brother are loved by our father more than we are, but we are a strong group. Really, our father is in a plain error.

9. "Kill Joseph or send him away in any other land, so that the favor of your father may be given to us alone, and after that you will be righteous people"...

10. One from among them said: "Kill not Joseph, but if you must do something, throw him down to the bottom of a well and he will be picked up by some caravan."

19. And there came a caravan; they sent their water-drawer, and he let down his bucket (into the well). He said: "What good news! Here is a boy." So they hide him to sell him as merchandise. And Allah was the All-Knower of what they did.

20. and they sold him for a low price, for a few Dirhams. And they regarded him as insignificant.

21. And the man who bought him was from Egypt and said to his wife: "Make his stay comfortable. He might be useful or we may adopt him as a son." Thus we established Joseph in the land and we taught him the interpretation of dreams. And Allah has full power but most of people do not know it.

28. So when he (the husband) saw Joseph's shirt torn at the back, he said: "Surely, it is a plot of you women! Certainly your plots are great!

29. Joseph, do not think of it! (O woman!) Ask forgiveness for your sin. Verily, you were of the sinful."

46. "O Joseph, the man of truth! Explain to us the dream of seven fat cows that seven lean ones were devouring, and of seven green ears of corn et as much from others dry, that I may return to the people, and that they may know the meaning of this dream."

47. Joseph said: "For seven consecutive years, you shall sow and the harvest which you reap you shall leave in ears except a little of it which you may eat.

48. Then will come after that, seven years of paucity which will devour what you have laid by in advance for them except a little of that which you have stored as seeds.

49. "Then thereafter will come a year in which people will have abundant rain and they will go to press."

58. And Joseph's brothers came and entered unto him. He recognized them, but they did not recognize him.

59. And he furnished them with provisions...

88. Then, when they entered unto him (Joseph), they said: "O ruler of the land! Famine hit us and our family; we have brought low value goods. Give us a full measure and be charitable to us. Truly, Allah does reward the charitable."

90. They said: "Are you indeed Joseph?" He said: "I am Joseph, and this is my brother. Allah has indeed been gracious to us. Verily, he who fears Allah with obedience to Him and is patient, then surely, Allah does not make the reward of the good-doers to be lost."

99. Then, when they entered unto Joseph, he welcomed his father and mother and said: "Enter Egypt in security if Allah wills,"

SURAH 14 - IBRAHIM (ABRAHAM)

52 verses - 5 excerpts of verses retained

In the Qur'an Abraham is turned into Muslim and respects the Salat 3600 years before the Qur'an was revealed and written. The chronology is not taken into account in the Qur'an but time seems to be a concept of no importance when it comes to strengthen a narrative.

Abraham being a key figure it is important to transform him into Muslim 2600 years before Islam existed. Islam is the respect of God through the Qur'an and involved the existence of the Qur'an.

The Qur'an was not revealed to Abraham who is wrongly considered as Muslim but to the Prophet Mohammad and only to him. According to the Qur'an Abraham would have made some of his offspring at the Holy House of Allah, that is to say, the Kaaba in Mecca.

The Kaaba is actually a cubic building in which the Prophet would have placed the black stone in 605 before the Qur'an was revealed to him. This stone was to be near the Kaaba because it would have fallen from heaven to tell Adam and Eve where they had to build an altar. Muhammad would have kissed the black stone.

The announcement by the angel Gabriel to Muhammad saying that he will be the prophet was made in the year 611, when he was 31 years old.

The worship of stones is part of the pre-Islamic tradition of the tribes of the region (Polydemonists and Nabateans...), but Muslims say they do not worship the black stone but only want to replicate during the pilgrimage the gesture of the Prophet kissing this stone.

It is noteworthy that the Bible does not mention any Abraham's journey to Mecca. The Kaaba would have become the reference center of Islam instead of Jerusalem after the conflict between Muhammad and the Jews of Medina.

Excerpts of verses

35. And (remember) when Abraham said: "O my Lord! Make this city a safe place, and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols.

36. "O my Lord! They (idols) have indeed led astray many people. But who follows me; he verily is one of mines.

37. "O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in an uncultivable valley near Your Holy House (the Ka'bah); in order, O our Lord, that they may perform As-Salat. So fill some hearts among people with love towards them, and (O Allah) provide them with fruits so that they may be thankful.

39. "All the praises and thanks to Allah, Who has given me despite my old age Ishmael and Isaac. Verily! My Lord listen our prayers.

40. "O my Lord! Make me perform regularly As-Salat as also part of my offspring; O our Lord accepts my invocation.

SURAH 16 - AN-NAHL (THE BEES)

128 verses - 12 excerpts of verses retained

The same ideas are repeated from Surah to Surah and we mainly retain their difference. The repetition is that God is both merciful and severe in punishment, which is paradoxical. He created man (from a drop of sperm see verse 4), cattle, water, mountains, rivers and trails, landmarks and stars to guide mankind.

He created dates and vines (verse 67) to which produce an intoxicating drink yet prohibited. There is mention of bees in the sole verse 68.We must emphasize verses 57, 58 and 59 which condemn those who want to get rid of the girls because they want sons. This is certainly a useful indication at that time and even today in some parts of the world.

Verse 71 makes God responsible for the unequal distribution of wealth between human beings and verse 93 says that it is his desire that some are lost and others take the right path rejecting consequently the notion of free will and making difficult the building of a moral model.

Excerpts of verses

4. He has created man from one drop of and then behold, this same (man) becomes an open opponent.

5. and the cattle, He has created them for you;

10. He is who sends down water from the sky; from it you drink and from it the vegetation grows and you send on it your cattle to pasture;

15. and He has affixed mountains in order to make earth firm and not shaking with you, and rivers and roads, that they guide you.

16. And landmarks and the stars which guide the mankind at night.

58. and when the news of the birth of a female is brought to any of them, his face becomes dark, and he is filled with inward grief!59. He hides himself from the people because of the evil of that whereof he has been informed. Shall he keep her despite the dishonor she brings or bury her in the earth? Certainly, evil is their decision.

67. And from the fruits of date-palms and grapes, you obtain inebriant and a good food. Verily, therein is indeed a sign for people who understand.

68. and your Lord inspired the bees, saying: "Take you habitations in the mountains and in the trees and in the trellises that the man do.

69. "Then, eat of all fruits, and follow the ways of your Lord made easy for you." There comes forth from their bellies, a drink of varying color wherein is healing for men. Verily, in this is indeed a sign for people who think.

71. Allah has preferred some of you above others in the distribution of his gifts. Then, those who are preferred will by no means hand over a portion of their wealth to those (slaves) he owns so that they may be equal with them in respect thereof. Do they then deny the Favor of Allah?

93. If Allah had willed, he could have made of you one community, but He sends astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. But you shall certainly be called to account for what you used to do.

SURAH 17 - Al-ISRA' (THE JOURNEY BY NIGHT)

111 verses - 8 excerpts of verses retained

The accusation of corruption and transgression of the Israelites in verse 4 is violent.Verses 8 and 10 illustrate the very randomness of mercy. Verse 17 says that God has exterminated many generations to punish them.

Verse 30 says that the inequality between human being is the will of God.

Verse 33 shows that one can kill a man if it is fair to do so leaving many thus reasons to commit murder.

Verse 104 further confirms the link between the people of Israel and the Promised Land and the gathering of all the people of Israel on this land in the future.

Excerpts of verses

4. and we decreed for the Children of Israel in the Scripture, that indeed you would do mischief on the earth twice and you will extremely transgress!

8. "It may be that your Lord may show mercy unto you (Jews), but if you return to sins, we shall return to your Punishment. And we have made Hell a prison for the disbelievers.

10. And to those who do not believe in the Hereafter we have prepared a painful torment.

17. And how many generations have we exterminated after Noah! And Sufficient is your Lord as an All-Knower and All-Beholder of the sins of His servants.

21. See how we favor one above another (in this world) and verily, in the Hereafter there will be greater degrees and greater in preference.

30. Truly, your Lord enlarges his gifts for whom He wills and straitens them for whom He wills. Verily, He is ever All-Knower, All-Seer of His servants.

33. And do not kill anyone which Allah has forbidden, "except for a just cause". And for whoever is killed unfairly, we have given his heir the authority. But let him not exceed limits in the matter of murder because he is helped by the law.

104. And we said to the Children of Israel after him: "Dwell in the land, then, when the final and last promise comes near. We shall bring you altogether.

SURAH 19 - MARYAM (Mary)

98 verses - 15 excerpts of verses retained

Surah begins to evoke Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth, who has yet sterile given birth to John the Baptist called Yahya in the Qur'an. Secondly it is explained how Mary, virgin conceived by the will of God and gave birth to Jesus called Issa in the Qur'an. The Qur'an following the gospels presents Jesus and John the Baptist as cousins but restricts the role of Jesus to that of messenger of God and does not recognize him as a son of God.

It is reminded that the Quran was presented in a language easy to understand for those who are recipients, i.e. Arabic (verse 97).

Verse 98 indicates that many generations who have not followed the Qur'an have perished.

Excerpts of verses

7. "O Zachariah! Verily, we give you the glad tidings of a son, his name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)."

8. He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached a very old age?"

9. Allahsaid: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; it is easy for me. I have created you before you had been nothing!"

12....O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Torah].And we gave him wisdom while he was yet a child.

17. She placed a screen between her and them; then we sent to her our spirit (Gabriel), and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects.

19. He said: "I am only a Messenger from your Lord to announce you the gift of a righteous son."

22. So she conceived a child and she withdrew with him to a far place.

27. Then she brought him (the baby) to her people, carrying him. They said: "O Mary! Indeed you have made a dreadful thing.

30. "He Jesus said: Verily! I am a servant of Allah; He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet;"

33. "And peace be upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!"

34. Such is Iesa (Jesus), son of Mary. It is a statement of truth, about which they doubt.

88. And they say: "The Most Beneficent (Allah) has begotten a son!" 89. Indeed you have brought forth a terrible evil thing.

97. So we have made the Qur'an easy to understand in your own tongue (Arabic) in order that you may give glad tidings to the pious and righteous persons and warn the most quarrelsome people.

98. And how many a generation before them have we destroyed! Can you find a single one of them or hear even a whisper of them?

SURAH 21- AL-ANBIYAH' (THE PROPHETS)

112 verses - 16 excerpts of verses retained

God broke the cities and peoples who did not worship him and did not believe his messengers and their names are mentioned in the Surah. Hell is promised to all those who claim that there are other deities. The mountains were built solidly in order that they do not collapse and create ways to guide people (verse 31); the sky is a protected roof (verse 32).

The list of messengers and people preferred by God includes Moses and his brother Aaron, who received the book of discernment: the Torah. Then it is reminded that Abraham (Abram at that time) broke the idols of his people and received Isaac and Jacob who were good people. Lot had the ability to judge and Noah was saved. David and Solomon had a good judgment. Job, Ishmael, Zechariah, John the Baptist, the Virgin Mary and Jesus are not forgotten.

Those who do not love God will fuel the fire of hell.

Excerpts of verses

6. None of the towns which we destroyed, believed to the miracle we made. Will they then believe?

29. And if any of them should say: "Verily, I am a god besides Him" such one we will recompense with Hell. Thus we recompense the wrong-doers.

31. And we have placed mountains to firm the earth in order that it does not shake you and we placed therein ways to pass through and guide you.

32. And we have made the sky as a safe roof. Yet they turn away from these wonders.

48. We granted to Moses and Aaron the book of the criterion (Torah), and a shining light and a Reminder for the pious.

62. They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Abraham?"

72. And we bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob. Each one we made righteous.

74. and Lot, We gave him the right judgment and the knowledge and we saved him from the town that practiced the vice. Verily, they were a people given to evil and were rebellious.

76. and Noah, when he called us aforetime. We listened to his invocation and saved him and his family from great distress.

78. And David and Salomon, when they gave judgment in the case of the field in which the sheep of certain people had pastured at night and we were witness to their judgment.

83. and Job, when he implored his Lord: "Verily, distress has seized me, and you are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy."

85. and Ishmael, Idris (Enoch) and Dhul-Kifl (Isaiah), all were from among the patient ones.

89. and Zachariah, when he implored his Lord: "O My Lord! Do not leave me single though you are the Best of the inheritors."

90. So we answered his call and we bestowed upon him Yahya (John), and cured his wife. Verily, they invoke us by love and by fear and used to humble themselves before us.

91. and the Virgin Mary, We breathed life into her [through and we made her and her son Jesus a sign for the universe.

98. You disbelievers and those who are worshipping besides Allah will be the fuel for Hell! You will enter it all of you.

SURAH 22 - AL-HAJJ (THE PILGRIMAGE)

78 verses - 9 excerpts of verses retained

Verse 5 explains how God intervenes at every stage of human reproduction.

In verse 16 it is said that Allah guides whom he wills eliminating thee free will and guilt of humankind in the choices they made. Accordingly a bad as a good choice of a human being is guided by God. Yet in verse 17 God reproaches their choices to those who did not follow his path including Jews, Christians and other disbelievers.Verse 16 contradicts thus verse 17.

Those that God did not want to guide on the right path will yet suffer the punishment of Hell with many details about their tortures (clothing of fire and boiling water over the head that will melt their bellies and their skins).  In Heaven the believers will wear bracelets of gold and pearls and silk clothes. Only verses 26 and 27 mention the Kaaba and the pilgrimage (Hajj). In verse 65, it is said that God could bring down heaven on earth but retains it until now.

Excerpts of verses

5. O mankind! If you are in doubt about the Resurrection, we have created you from earth then from a drop of sperm then from a clot then from an embryo, some formed as well as unformed to show you our Power and Ability to do what we will. And we will keep who we will to remain in the wombs for an appointed term. Then we will bring you out as baby and you will reach your age of full strength.

16. Thus have we sent the Qur'an down in clear verses and Allah guides whom He wills.

17. Verily, those who believe and those who are Jews, and the Sabians (worshipers of stars), and the Christians, and the Magi, and those who worship others besides Allah, truly, Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection. Verily! Allah is Witness over all things.

19. These two opponents dispute with each other about their Lord; for those who disbelieve, garments of fire will be cut out for them; boiling water will be poured down over their heads

20.  that will melt what is within their bellies, as well as their skins.

23. Truly, Allah will admit those who believe and do righteous good deeds, to Gardens underneath which rivers flow wherein they will be adorned with bracelets of gold and pearls and their garments therein will be of silk.

26. And remember when we showed Abraham the site of the holy House (the Ka'bah at) saying: "Do not associate anything with me, and purify My House for those who circumambulate it, and those who stand up, and those who bow and make prostration."

27. And proclaim to mankind the Hajj .They will come to you by foot and also on any kind of steeds coming from every distant ways.

65. Have not youseen that Allah has subjected to you all that are on the earth and the ship that sail on the sea by His Command? He withholds the sky from falling on the earth except by His Leave.

SURAH 23 - Al-MU'MINUN (THE BELIEVERS)

118 verses - 8 excerpts of verses retained

Most verses are already in other Surahs and repeated. Blessed are the believers who will go to heaven and that particular those who restrict their sexual activities with only their wives and slaves.

Excerpts of verses

1. Successful indeed are the believers.

2. Those who offer are full submissiveness in their Salat (prayers) 3. And those who turn away from vain

4. And those who pay the Zakat.

5. And those who guard their chastity

6. except with their wives or their slaves that they possess, for then, they are free from blame;

10. These are indeed the inheritors.

11. Who shall inherit the Paradise and will dwell therein forever.

SURAH 24 - AN-NUR (THE LIGHT)

64 verses - 4 excerpts of verses retained

This Surah imposes hundred lashes for fornicators (even if none of them is married) and stoning to death for an adulterous woman if her bad act is confirmed by four witnesses.

If an accusing husband is a liar he will be just cursed and will suffer punishment in the hereafter but nothing on earth.

Verse 31 is the basis of the veil wearing for Muslim women. It is a question of hiding the trappings of the woman and their chest.

There is no question in this verse of veil on face and hair but the veil on the face and head is suggested in verse 59, Surah 33.

Women must not hit the ground with their foot to let people guess what their finery is.

Excerpts of verses

2. the adulteress and the fornicator, flog each of them with a hundred stripes. Let not pity withhold you in their case, in the execution of the punishment prescribed by Allah, if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.

6. And for those who accuse their wives (*) but have no witnesses except themselves, let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies by Allah that he is one of those who speak the truth.

(*) The punishment being the stoning to death

23. Verily, those who accuse chaste women, who never even think of anything touching their chastity and are good believers, are cursed in this life and in the Hereafter, and for them will be a great torment,

31. And tell the believing women to look down and protect their chastity and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent and to draw their veils all over their chest and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husband's sons, their brothers or their brother's sons, or their sister's sons, or to Muslim women or their female slaves or impotent male servants or prepubertal children. And let them not stamp their feet to reveal their hidden adornment.

SURAH 25 - AL-FURQAN (THE CRITERION)

77 verses - 6 excerpts of verses retained

The prophet seems to defend himself against multiple attacks he suffered from people who do not share his faith or his opinion (verses 4, 5, 41 and 60).

The Qur'an is presented as a rule of conduct that everyone must follow and does not intend to tolerate any other rule. The Qur'an is thus intolerant and it is not suitable for Western civilization. Those who do not want to follow the Qur'an are threatened of the worst (verse 11).

What is called discernment in the Qur'an is an unconditional acceptance and without discernment.

Excerpts of verses

1. Blessed is He who sent down the Book of the criterion to His servant that he may be a warner to the universe?

2. He to whom belong the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and who has begotten no son and for whom there is no partner in his dominion. He has created everything, with fair measurements.

4. Those who disbelieve say: "This is nothing but a lie that he (Muhammad) has invented, or others have helped him at it, so that they have made an unjust thing and said a lie."

5-And they say: "They are tales of the ancients, which he has written down, and they are dictated to him morning and afternoon."

41. And when they see you they treat you only as a mockery (saying):"Is this the one whom Allah has sent as a Messenger?

60. And when it is said to them: "Prostrate to the Most Beneficent! They say: "And what is the Most Beneficent? Shall we fall down in prostration to that which you command us?" And it increases in them only aversion.

SURAH 27 - AN-NAML (THE ANTS)

93 verses - 14 excerpts of verses retained

The first 15 verses still speak of the exodus. In verse 18 an ant warns others that they could be crushed under the feet of Solomon's soldiers.

Then a mention is made regarding the Queen of Sheba whose people have no faith in God.Solomon behaved the spokesman of God and requested from the Queen of Sheba (according to the Qur'an) her submission to God.

In verse 54 it is reminded that God is hostile to homosexuality at this was shown by the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Excerpts of verses

18. When they came to the valley of the ants, one of the ants said: "O ants! Enter your dwellings, lest Salomon and his soldiers crush you, since they do not see you."

22. but she was absent for a short period, and said: "I knew what you did not know and I have to tell you a true new from Saba'.

23. "I found a woman ruling them, and she has been given all things that could be possessed by anyone and she has a magnificent throne.

24. "I found her and her people worshipping the sun instead of Allah, and the Devil has made their deeds fair-seeming to them, and has barred them from the right Way, so they have no guidance,"

29. The Queen said: "O chiefs! Verily! Here is delivered to me a noble letter,

30. It is from Solomon, and it is in the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, and the Most Merciful;

36. So when the messengers came to Salomon, he said: "Will you help me with gifts? What Allah has given me is better than that which He has given you!

37. Salomon said "Go back to them. We shall come to them with troops that they cannot resist, and we shall drive them out from there in disgrace, and they will be abased."

43. And that which she used to worship besides Allah prevented her to believe for she was of a disbelieving people.

44. It was said to her: "Come in the Palace". She saw a glass surface she believed it was water and uncovered her legs, Salomon said: "Verily, it is a palace with paved with crystal." She said: "My Lord! I have wronged myself, and I submit with Salomon to Allah, the Lord of the Universe.

54. And remember Lot! When he said to his people:"you commit sodomy while you see clearly.

55. "Do you approach men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, but you are a people who behave senselessly."

 SURAH 29 - Al-ANKABUT (THE SPIDER)

69 verses - 5 excerpts of verses retained

This Surah repeats the meaning of previous Surahs including the story of Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Lot. Those who do not believe in God live in a house as fragile as the house of the spider (verse 41), hence the name of this Surah.

Excerpts of verses

14. and indeed we sent Noah to his people, and he stayed among them a thousand years less fifty years and the Deluge overtook them while they were wrong-doers.

16. And Abraham when he said to his people: "Worship Allah and fear Him, that is better for you if you did know.

26. Lot believed in him. He said: "I will emigrate to my Lord. Verily, He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise."

27. And We bestowed on him Isaac and Jacob and put among his offspring Prophethood and the Book  and We granted him his reward in this world, and verily, in the Hereafter he is indeed among the righteous.

41. Those who take protectors other than Allah are like a spider, which builds a house, but verily, the weakest of houses is the spider's house; if they knew.

SURAH 33 - AL-AHZAB (THE CONFEDERATES)

73 verses - 7 excerpts of verses retained

In 627 the war of the trench started between them Arab tribes Quraysh of Mecca, the Jewish tribe of Banu Qurayza of Medina and other Arab tribes such as the polytheists Banu Ghatafan and Muhammad and his followers who were took refuge in Medina from 622.  These tribes were called the "Confederates" (name of the Surah). All men of the Jewish tribe of Banu Qurayza were all killed despite they surrendered and their women and children were sold.

Surahs generally treat little off topic related to their title.

Verse 4 alludes to the easy repudiation of married women. It is recommended that adopted children keep the name of their father not to be confused with the other children (verse 5).

Verse 6 is surprising because it is said that the prophet has more rights over the believers than they have on themselves; yet the prophet is a human being and the messenger of God who should be the only one to have rights over the believers.

In fact Islam has somehow deified the prophet who has more powers than a human being increased by the fact that the prophet should not be represented. This is annoying for a strict compliance to monotheism.

The Prophet condemns the retreat and supports the flight(verse 16). You will inherit the wealth of the peoples of the scripture killed or captives allied to those who do not want to follow the Qur'an (verse 26 and 27).

Verse 59 is very clear regarding the wearing of a big veil that women should use to conceal.

Excerpts of verses

4. Allah has not put for any man two hearts inside his body. Neither has He made your wives like your mothers [to whom you said  when you repudiate them: "You are as unlawful for me as the back of my mother" nor has He made your adopted sons your real sons. That is your saying. But Allah says the truth, and He guides to the (Right) Way.

5. Call them by the name of their fathers that is more just with Allah. But if you know not their fathers call them your brothers in faith or your allies. And there is no sin on you if you make a mistake therein except in regard to what your hearts deliberately do. And Allah is ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

6. The Prophet has more rights on the believers than their have on themselves. The blood relations among each other have priority (inheritance) on the ties between the believers.

16. Say: "Flight will not avail you if you flee from death (without fighting) or from killing (in fighting) and then you will enjoy life no more than a little while!"

26. And those of the people of the Scripture (*) who backed them (the disbelievers, the confederates) Allah brought them down from their forts and cast terror into their hearts, a group (of them) you killed, and a group (of them) you made captives.

(*)In this case the Jewish tribe Banu Qurayza

27. And He caused you to inherit their lands, and their houses, and their assets, and also a land which you had not trodden (before).

59. O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their big veils all over their bodies. So they will be recognized and not be annoyed.

SURAH 34 - SABA' (SHEBA)

54 verses - 4 excerpts of verses retained

Verse 5 is considering a painful torment for those who attempt to make vain the Qur'anic verses and questions the omnipotence of God which should be yet impossible as the result of it; there is a contradiction. Despite this impossibility the threat of a painful torment is repeated once again. Verses 15 and 16 show that despite the benefits they enjoyed the people of the tribe of Sabba turned from God unleashing his anger. Verse 49 says that the Qur'an is the only truth still characterizing the intolerance of Islam.

Excerpts of verses

5. For those who strive against our verses will be a severe painful torment.

15. Indeed there was for the tribe of Saba' a sign in their dwelling place: two gardens on the right hand and on the left. "Eat the food that your Lord gave you, and be grateful to Him: a good land and an Oft-Forgiving Lord.

16. But they turned away so We sent against them  flood released from the dam, and We converted their two gardens into gardens producing bitter fruit, tamarisks, and some few jujubes.

49. Say:"The truth (Islam) has come, and the falsehood can neither create anything nor resurrect anything."

SURAH 35 - AL-FATIR (THE CREATOR)

45 verses - 5 excerpts of verses retained

The Qur'an refers often to the myth of angels who are assumed to fly in the sky with two, three, or four wings. Then the litany of those who disbelieve and have a severe punishment and the others a reward comes again.

The fact that the Prophet was called a liar is also often repeated in the Qur'an; this kind of mockery should not concern someone as important as a prophet to the point that he quotes these mockeriesin a holy book.

It is said that in the garden of Eden the people will wear bracelets of gold and pearls and silk clothes that seem  very materialistic as in a pagan paradise and will feel neither fatigue nor weariness.

Excerpts of verses

1. All the praises and thanks be to Allah, Creator of the heavens and earth, who made the angels messengers with two or three or four wings. He increases in creation what He wills. Verily, Allah is Able to do all things.

7. Those who disbelieve will have a severe torment; and those who believe and do righteous good deeds, they will have forgiveness and a great reward.

25. and if they belie you, those before them also belied their messengers. Their Messengers came to them with clear signs, and with the Scriptures, and the book giving light.

33. When they will enter the gardens of Eden, they will be adorned with bracelets of gold and pearls, and their garments there will be of silk.

35. He has lodged us by his grace, in a home that will last forever; no toil or weariness will touch us."

SURAH 37 - AS-SAFFAT (THOSE ARRANGED IN RANKS)

182 verses - 14 excerpts of verses retained

The stars are there to decorate the sky and to protect it from the devil.

Allah's servants will live in a pagan paradise, they will eat fruits lying on bed face to face and drink tasty white water surrounded by beautiful women with big eyes. We guess here a very materialistic problem that the tribes of Arabia had to face: the lack of water, lack of food, the desire to enjoy.

The number of verses of a Surah is arbitrary and the piece of sentence "And indeed they used to say" constitutes a verse even if it has in itself no meaning.

Excerpts of verses

1. By those ranged in ranks.

4. Verily your God is indeed one

6. We have adorned the sky with the stars

7.  To protect it against every rebellious devil.

40. Save the chosen servants of Allah

41. For them there will be a known provision

42. Fruits; and they shall be honored,

43. In the Gardens of delight

44. Facing one another on beds,

45. Round them will be passed a cup of pure water

46. White, delicious to the drinkers,

47. It will not hinder their thinking or intoxicate them

48. and with them will be beautiful females with wide and beautiful eyes, restraining their glances with chastity...

167. And indeed they used to say; (*)

(*) Exemple de verset qui n'et une partie de phrase n'ayant pas de sens en lui-même)

SURAH 38 - SAAD

88 verses - 6 excerpts of verses retained

This Surah repeats the same ideas as the previous ones and always refers to the same small number of biblical characters. In verse 7 Christianity is accused of polytheism.

Excerpts of verses

2. Those who disbelieved are in false pride and opposition.

3. How many a generation we have destroyed before them, and they cried out when there was no longer time for escape!

4. And they (people from Mecca) were surprised that a warner has come to them from among themselves! And the disbelievers say: "He is a wizard and a big liar.

5. "Will he reduce the gods to one single God? Verily, this is a curious thing!"

6. And their leaders went about (saying): "Go on, and remain constant to your gods! Verily, this is a preferable thing.

7. "We have not heard such thing in the last religion (Christianity). This is nothing but an invention!

SURAH 39 - AZ-ZUMAR (THE GROUPS)

75 verses - 5 excerpts of verses were retained:

It was ordained to everyone to be the first Muslim and yet Abraham was mentioned paradoxically but in the Qur'an as the first Muslim and those that will not be will suffer a terrible punishment.

The Qur'an is in Arabic in order to be clear to everyone; if it was in another language its meaning could have been tortuous and it is therefore it was only made for people speaking perfectly Arabic.

Islam and Christianity are both proselytes but Christianity accepts the diversity of languages to address the many. Yet the Muslims of the Middle East and Africa account for only 320 million people out of 1600 million of Muslims or 20% of the total. Moreover those who speak Arabic may not necessarily read it and the local dialects are numerous.

We cannot be sure thus of the perfect understanding of the Qur'an among the peoples to whom it was propagated. Nearly one billion of Muslims live in Asia in excluding of it the Middle East.

Excerpts of verses

11. Say: "I was commanded to worship only Allah by obeying Him and doing religious deeds sincerely for Allah only...

12. And I was commanded to be the first of Muslims.

13. Say:"Verily, if I disobey my Lord, I am afraid of the torment of a terrible Day."

27. We have put for people in this Qur'an every kind of examples in order that they may remember.

28. an Arabic Qur'an, without tortuosity in order that they are pious.

SURAH 40 - GHAFIR (THE FORGIVER)

85 verses - 3 excerpts of verses retained

This Surah repeats again the same things as in the previous ones: those who disbelieved the messengers of God and will be punished. Then the same biblical characters are mentioned as Moses, Noah...

Excerpts of verses

22. That was so because their Messengers came to them with clear evidences but they disbelieve. So Allah seized them with punishment. Verily, He is All-Strong, Severe in punishment.

23. And we sent Moses with Our signs and a clear proof.

31. Like the fate of the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and Thamud and those who came after them. Allah wants no injustice for (His) servants.

SURAH 41- FUSSILAT (THE DETAILED VERSES)

54 verses - 2 excerpts of verses retained

A language other than Arabic is a source of error and Arabic was chosen for the Qur'an. The Torah was given to Moses in a language other than Arabic, and there were controversies.

It seems that Arabic is considered as the universal language of the world, unless, as is more likely that Qur'an was made for the sole Arabic tribes of Mecca or Medina.

Furthermore it is unacceptable from a religious standpoint that a prophet criticizes God in his choice regarding the language of the Torah given to Moses.

If God is omnipotent and he should not be criticized even by a Prophet who received from him the Qur'an.

Excerpts of verses

44. if We had sent this as a Qur'an in a language other than Arabic, they would have said: "Why these verses are not explained clearly? What! A Book (Qur'an) not in Arabic and an Arab Messenger!

45. We indeed gave Moses the Scripture, but dispute arose therein.

SURAH 42 - ASH-SHURAH (THE CONSULTATION)

53 verses - 3 excerpts of verses retained

Again verse 7 confirms the local specificity of the Qur'an by language: the Arabic and by the designation of the mother of cities: Mecca and its surrounding.

This verse challenges again the free will of the human being because God is omnipotent and guides only whom he will to the right path, which would mean that those who go astray are victims of God.

Verse 13 refers again and again the same biblical figures: Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus.

The reference to Jesus is yet surprising because his teaching is the opposite in all respects to that of Islam.

Excerpts of verses:

7. And thus We have inspired unto you a Qur'an in Arabic in order that you may warn the Mother of the Towns (Mecca) and all around it on the Day of Assembling, of which there is no doubt, one group  will be in Paradise and another group in the blazing Fire.

8. and if Allah had wanted, He could have made one single community, but He admits whom He wills to His Mercy and the wrong-doers will have neither a protector nor a helper.

13.  Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides unto Himself who turns to Him in repentance.

SURAH 43 AZ-ZUKHRUF (THE ADORNMENT)

89 verses - 1 excerpt of verse retained

Again the local specificity of the Quran is confirmed by the choice of its language.

Excerpts of verses

3. We have made a Qur'an in Arabic that you may be able to understand.

SURAH 47 - MUHAMMAD

38 verses - 3 excerpts of verses retained

Those who disbelieve follow falsehood but in former Surahs it is said that God chose those whom he wants to guide on the right path.

In combat you have to strike the neck of the unbelievers which leaves them little chance of life and is quite fierce; but prisoners may be released against a ransom and we see here the origin of the request of ransom to free captives(Verse 4).

The attack of disbelievers by striking their necks is thus mentioned in the Qur'an and the practice of beheading is currently in strong progress because ISIS practices it widely.

The verse 15 makes again a description of the paradise with rivers of odorless water that illustrates the problem of water for the tribes of Arabia, streams of milk which remains fresh (problem of preserving milk), rivers of a delicious wine (whose consumption is however not lawful), streams of honey and fruit (we guess that the desert is not easy to grow fruits).

Excerpts of verses

3. That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, while those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. So Allah sets forth their parables for mankind.

4. When you meet (in fight), those who disbelieve smite at their necks till when you have defeated many of them, then bind a bond firmly. Thereafter it is either the freedom without ransom or with ransom until the war lays down its burden. Thus you are ordered by Allah to continue fight against the disbelievers but if it had been Allah's Will, He Himself could have punished them. But He lets you fight in order to test you, some with others. But for those who are killed in the Way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost,

15. Here is the description of Paradise which is promised to the pious: There will be rivers of never smelly water and streams of constantly tasty milk; streams of a delicious wine; and streams of clarified honey.

There are for them every kind of fruit and forgiveness from their Lord. Are these like those who shall dwell forever in the Fire, and be given, to drink, boiling water, so that it cuts up their bowels?

SURAH 48- AL-FATH (THE VICTORY)

29 verses - 6 excerpts of verses retained

The unbelievers (Jews and Christians) deserve only the fiery furnace. Those who do not fight do not deserve a share of the spoils, and God promises victory and abundant spoils. God wants you to be strong against Unbelievers.

Excerpts of verses

1. Verily, We have given you a manifest victory.

13. and whosoever does not believe in Allah and His Messenger then verily, we have prepared for the disbelievers a blazing Fire.

15. Those who lagged behind will say, when you set forth to take the spoils, "Allow us to follow you,"

18. Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers and He rewarded them with a near victory,

19. And abundant spoils that they will capture.

29. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves...By them the believers, Allah fills the disbelievers with chagrin.

SURAH 55 - AR-RAHMAN (THE MOST GRACIOUS)

78 verses - 9 excerpts of verses retained

God is merciful but he did create hell to punish criminals, disbelievers; reference is made then to herbs and trees that kowtow then to the creation of humankind and to the scales that ensures the weight in commercial transactions.

Excerpts of verses

1. the Most Beneficent

2. Has taught the Qur'an

6. And the herbs and the trees both prostrate

7.  He has raised high the sky and He created the scales

8. In order that you do not transgress accurate weighting

9. And observe the weight with equity

16. Which of the favors of your Lord will you both deny?

43. This is Hell which the criminals denied.

44. They will go between it (Hell) and the boiling hot water!

 SURAH 56 - AL-WAQI'AH (THE EVENT)

96 verses - 33 excerpts of verses retained

More on the pagan paradise proposed by the Qur'an

When the Day of Judgment will arrive there will be three categories of people and which are:

1-The first to have followed the path of God: They will  lie in beds of gold and with precious stones and will be served by young boys who will bring them liquors, fruits and flesh of  birds and by to "Houris" (women) with big beautiful eyes, "who will be  forever beautiful, young, and virgin.

2- The people of the right are those who respected the Qur'an; they will have unlimited quantities of Jujuba's fruits and bananas and other fruits and will be on "raised beds with graceful and virgin females."

3-The people of the left are the disbelievers and idolaters; they will suffer from scorching fire and burning water in the shade of black smoke. They will eat a thorny tree and drink boiling water.

Excerpts of verses

1. When the Event (The Judgment) befalls.

7. And you will be in three kinds

8. So those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand?

9. And those on the Left Hand, Who will be those on the Left Hand?

10. The first ones [(following the way of Allah in the life of this world will be the first ones in the hereafter.

11. These are the nearest ones to Allah.

12. In the Gardens of delights

15. on beds woven with gold and precious stones,

16. Reclining thereon, face to face.

17. Among them forever young boys will go

18. with cups, and jugs, and a glass full of a liquor of spring

20. And fruits that they desire

21. And all the flesh of birds that they desire.

22. And Houris with wide and beautiful eyes

23. Like preserved pearls

24. As reward for what they used to do

27. and those on the Right Hand, -Who will be those on the Right Hand?

28. They will be among thornless jujubes.

29. Among banana-trees with plenty of fruits

30. In shade long-extended

31. By water flowing constantly

32. And fruit in plenty

34. And on beds raised high

35. Verily, We have created them perfectly

36. And made them virgins

37. Graceful all with the same age

38. for those on the Right Hand

41. And those on the Left Hand who will be those on the Left Hand?

42. They will be between burning wind and boiling water,

43. In the shadow of a black smoke

52. You certainly will eat the trees of Zaqqum.

53. Then you will fill your bellies therewith,

54. "And drink boiling water on top of it"

IV- NECESSARY REFORMS OF THE QUR'AN TO MAKE ISLAM COMPATIBLE WITH THE HUMAN RIGHTS

We cannot tolerate under cover of "Sacred or Holy" that the following topics be taught in the civilized world:

 (i) A particularly violent anti-Semitism

(ii) A powerful anti-Christianity ranking second after anti-Semitism and generally

(iii) The hatred of others

(iv) The call to violence and murder

(v) The use of torture

(vi) The capture of hostages

(vii) The taking of booty

(viii) The rejection of the human values in the name of an assumed divine omnipotence.

These rules directly inspire Islamist terrorists as ISIS that applies the Qur'an literally. Where we see terror they see religious piety. It is surprising that terror may be viewed as piety but the Qur'an does not teach the love and peace but the intolerance and violence.

Ignorance drives some people to assimilate the Qur'an to the religions of the scripture by inaccuracy and over simplification. The Qur'an in is opposition to the peoples of the scripture.

On this false argument it is easy to convince the people that terrorist do not respect the Qur'an when they respect it to the letter.

Few imams and Muslims are really moderate in line with their personal convictions and do not mention voluntarily the anachronistic and violent verses that darken Islam; they emphasize the rules of common sense including respect a strict monotheism. These imams and western political leaders try to modify in the appearance of Islam into a normalized religion in line with western rules. In fact this normalization commands a deep reform and the modification of the virulent texts.

Furthermore the Qur'an establishes a principle of superiority of men over the women and mentions sufficiently clearly the obligation of the wearing of the veil despite the humiliation it represents for women and for all other women who must suffer this degrading vision.

Many verses give the Qur'an a local aspect restricted to Mecca and its surroundings and by the fact that the Qur'an considers the Arabic language as the only intelligible and clear language that allows reasoning and understanding.

The Qur'an says that the Torah given to Moses was not written in Arabic has produced many controversies. This criticism is from the own standpoint of the Qur'an is inacceptable towards God in his way to communicate with his prophets.

The omnipotence of God is such in the Qur'an that free will of human being is excluded and this is mentioned in many verses.

The lack of free will blurs the concepts of right and bad which is the basis of morality that religions should bring and paradoxically makes God responsible for good and evil.

The verses that we will mention cannot be taught in the Western countries that would be otherwise responsible for the transmission of hate and violence from generation to generation. What was possible for the Church with Vatican II should be also possible for Islam especially when the respect of the public order is threatened as a consequence as we may see it today.

We may react to the diplomatic arguments of Imams and Muslim leaders, is a clear knowledge of the Qur'an which only permits to raise the real questions. This is the target of this essay.

It is the responsibility of the most tolerant Imams to find the most adapted wording to neutralize the most dangerous verses. The solution could also as in Tunisia a clear separation between secular and religious.

The frustration of young Muslims in the Western world for social or family reasons is the basis of this return to the literal respect of the Quran that appears to them legitimate and therefore to intolerance but this return would not have been possible if these verses were deleted or reworded in a tolerant spirit.

1-ANTI-JUDAISM

It is not acceptable under the guise of "sacred or holy" to teach officially anti-Semitism in Muslim institutions particularly those located in democratic countries supporting the principle of human rights.

It is unacceptable to say repeatedly that God has cursed the people of Israel and that they are falsifiers. It is false and contrary to the rules of Judaism to pretend that all the people of Israel who applied a strict monotheism have asked to see God openly,  said that the hand of God is tied up, kill his messengers, are the worst enemies of the believers and claimed that God has a son named Uzair (Ezra according to some translators).

These lies only intend to generate hatred and violence against Jews and cannot be tolerated in the name of "Holy" and Islam is not the sole "Holy" religion. It is inacceptable to pretend that Abraham leading figure of the Jewish History was Muslim 2600 years before the Qur'an generator of Islam was revealed.

In verse 157 of Surah 4 the Qur'an acknowledges that Jews did not kill Jesus but accuse them to boast of having killed him, maintaining thus a cycle of charge against the Jews.

Excerpts of verses to be reconsidered

SURAH 2

44. You Enjoin people (Jews) to do righteousness and you forget to practice it yourselves, while you recite the Scripture (Torah)]! Have you then no sense?

67. And (remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his people: "Verily, Allah commands you that you slaughter a cow." They said, "Do you mock us?"

75. Do you (faithful believers: Muslims) think that they will believe in your religion in spite of the fact that part of them (the Jews) used to hear the Word of Allah (Torah), to change it knowingly after they understood it?

88. and they say, "Our hearts are wrapped (do not hear or understand Allah's Word)." No, Allah has cursed them (the Jews) for their disbelief, their faith is mediocre.

 SURAH 3

67.  Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was fully submitted to Allah (Muslim) and he was not an idolater.

95. Say:"Allah said the truth; follow the religion of Abraham who was a true Muslim. He was not an idolater.

SURAH 4

46. among those who are Jews, there are some who give words a wrong meaning and say: "We had heard your word and we have disobeyed," and "Hear and let you hear nothing; but Allah has cursed them for their disbelief; their faith is thus mediocre.

153. The people of the Scripture (Jews) ask you to cause a book to descend upon them from heaven. Indeed they asked Moses for even more enormous than that, when they said: "Show us Allah in public,"

but they were struck with thunder clap and lightning for their wickedness.

155. we have cursed them all because of their breaking the covenant, and of their rejecting the revelation of Allah, and of their unfair killing the Prophets and of their saying: "Our hearts are wrapped and closed". Verily, Allah has set a seal upon their hearts.

156. And because of their (Jews) disbelief and calumny against Mary.

157.  And because of their saying "We really killed Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah," but they did not kill him, nor crucified him; it was only a fake appearance!

SURAH 5

13. So because of their breach of their covenant, we cursed them, and made their hearts grow hard. They change the words from their right meaning and forgot a part of the Message that was sent to them. And you will not cease to discover deceit in them, except a few of them.

64. The Jews say: "Allah's Hand is tied up." Be their hands tied up and be they accursed for what they uttered...

70. Verily, We took the covenant of the Children of Israel and sent them, Messengers. Whenever a Messenger came to them with what they do not desire, they called certain of them liars, and killed others.

82. Verily, you will find that the Jews are the strongest enemies among men to the believers. And you will find that the nearest in love to the believers (Muslims) are those who say: "We are Christians." That is because amongst them are priests and monks who are not full of proud.

SURAH 17

4. and we decreed for the Children of Israel in the Scripture, that indeed you would do mischief on the earth twice and you will extremely transgress!

 2-ANTICHRISTIANISM

Christians are also accused by the Qur'an and God will punish them for their sins. For the Qur'an it is a blaspheme to pretend that Christ is the son of God and that it exists a Trinity; For the Qur'an both Christians and Jews are both people of the scripture and then disbelievers who deserve punishment.

The monks and the Rabbis devour the wealth of people and prevent them to access to the truth of Allah. But the Jews are the most hated people of the scripture according to the Qur'an.

SURAH 2

120.  The Jews and the Christians will ever be pleased with till you follow their religion.

SURAH 5

73. Surely, disbelievers are those who said: "Allah is the third of the three (Trinity)." But there is one single god. And if they do not cease from to say it, , a painful torment will befall these disbelievers.

SURAH 9

30. And the Jews say: 'Uzair (*) is the son of Allah, and the Christians say: Jesus is the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouths. They imitate the saying of the disbelievers before them. May Allah kill them? How they are deluded away from the truth!

31. They have taken their rabbis and monks as lords besides Allah, and also the Messiah, the son of Mary. And they were not commanded except to worship one God; there is no deity except Him. He is Exalted above whatever they associate with Him

34.O you who have believed, indeed many of the rabbis and the monks devour the wealth of people unjustly and avert [them] from the way of Allah. And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of Allah - give them tidings of a painful punishment.

3- ANTI-JEWISH AND ANTI -CHRISTIAN VERSES

The Qur'an states that it is primarily anti-Semitic but is a fierce enemy of Christianity. Jews and Christians who are called the peoples of the Scripture are cursed by God in the Qur'an and should be fought as disbelievers.

Jews and Christians are evil for most of them and want to misguide Muslims. The Qur'an states that Muslims should not have Jewish or Christian friends.

SURAH 2

89. And when there came to them (the Jews), a Book (this Qur'an) from Allah confirming what is with them (Torah) although aforetime they desired to have the supremacy over those who disbelieved, they disbelieved in it. So let the Curse of Allah be on the disbelievers.

SURAH 3

85. and whoever seeks a religion other than Islam will never be accepted and he will be he will in the Hereafter among the losers.

91. for those who disbelieved, and die as disbelievers, it will never be forgiven from anyone of them even if they offered the weight of the whole earth in gold. They will suffer a painful torment and will have no helpers.

99. Say: "O peoples of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)!

And had the peoples of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are perverse.

SURAH 5

68. Say "O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! You have nothing till you do not act according to the Torah and to the Gospel, and to what has been sent down to you from your Lord." Verily, that which has been sent down to you from your Lord will increase in many of them their rebellion and disbelief...

SURAH 9

30. And the Jews say: 'Uzair (*) is the son of Allah, and the Christians say: Jesus is the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouths. They imitate the saying of the disbelievers before them. May Allah kill them? How they are deluded away from the truth!

4-INTOLERANCE TOWARDS ALL BELIEFS OTHER THAN ISLAM

Following the Surahs we can see that hatred is encouraged not only against Jews and Christians, but against anyone who does not believe in the Qur'an. The Qur'an is the only truth and the other beliefs are not tolerated.

It is said that those who do not believe in the Qur'an are like cattle incapable of reasoning and that the disbelievers will be used as fuel for the fire. This assertion was achieved by the Nazis regarding the Jews during the Second World War.

Verse 11 and 13 prohibits "believers" all thoughts and all attempts of reform and thus they should behave as animals because they deprive themselves to think despite that in verse 171 the "unbelievers" are called livestock which is paradoxical.

Verse 39 of Surah 8 is clear: we must fight the disbelievers until the religion of Allah will be the sole remaining.

As in many sectarian fanaticisms it is advisable to respect neither his father nor his brothers if they do not believe in the religion of Allah.

SURAH 2

6. Verily, those who disbelieve, it is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe.

7. Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment.

11. And when it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "We are only peacemakers (reformers)."

13. And when it is said to them (hypocrites): "Believe as the people have believed," they say: "Shall we believe as the fools have believed?"

39.  Those who disbelieve our messages and belie our revelations, are the dwellers of the Fire, they shall abide therein forever.

159. Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs, evidences and the guidance, which We have sent down, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allah and cursed by the cursers.

171. The disbelievers are as a flock of sheep on which we shout and which only hear calls and cries. They are deaf, dumb and blind, they do not understand.

SURAH 3

10. Those who disbelieve, neither their properties nor their offspring will avail them whatsoever against the punishment of Allah; they will be fuel for the Fire.

12. Say to those who disbelieve: "You will be defeated and gathered together to Hell and worst indeed is that place to rest."

56. "As to those who disbelieve, I will punish them with a severe torment in this world and in the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers."

SURAH 4

56. Surely! Those who disbelieved in our verses (Qur'an) we shall burn them soon in Fire. As often as their skins are roasted through, we shall change them for other skins in order that they may taste the punishment. Truly, Allah is Ever Most Powerful, All-Wise.

144. O you who believe! Abstain having any relation with disbelievers instead of believers. Do you wish to offer Allah a manifest proof against yourselves?

SURAH 8

39. And fight them until there is no more disbelief and that the religion will be only that of Allah in the world.

SURAH 9

23. O you who believe! Take not for allies your fathers and your brothers if they prefer disbelieve.

 SURAH 10

13. and indeed, we destroyed generations before you, when they did wrong while their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they were not prepared to believe! Thus we requite the criminal people.

SURAH 21

98. You disbelievers and those who are worshipping besides Allah will be the fuel for Hell! You will enter it all of you.

SURAH 22

16. Thus have we sent the Qur'an down in clear verses and Allah guides whom He wills.

5- VIOLENCE AND EXPANSIONISM

Islam does not only wish to propagate its ideas but impose them and this is why the Qur'an makes of Islam a religion of fight. Verse 216 of Surah 2 says that fighting is prescribed. The prophet himself was involved in the destruction of part of the unbelievers (verse 121, Surah 3). We must not be defeated so that Allah may destroy the disbelievers. If you are killed by fighting for Allah you will be rewarded.

Allah is dreadful in might and severe in punishment and we are thus very far from a religion of peace and love.

Verse 33 of Surah 5 says that the reward of those who make war against Allah and his messenger and spread corruption on earth is that they must be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet from opposite sides are cut

The reward of fighters of Allah lies also in the booty that they will take after fighting the disbelievers and the rules of its sharing are set by the Qur'an. It is indeed the theft of property of those who do not share the same beliefs.

The Qur'an lightens the conscience of the believers as it is said that God being omnipotent the disbelievers who are killed are in fact killed by Allah (verse 17 of Surah 8). Verse 67 of Surah 8 is clear and said that a prophet should not make any prisoners until all disbelievers are defeated.

Verse 4 of Surah 47, indicates to hit in the neck and seems to introduce the concept of beheading.

SURAH 2

191. And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. The idolatry is worst than murder. If they attack you, then kill them all, such is the recompense of the disbelievers.

216. Holy fighting is ordained for you (Muslims) though you dislike it. It may be that you dislike a thing which is good for youand that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows but you do not know.

SURAH 3

152. And Allah indeed fulfilled His Promise to you when you were killing them tirelessly

157. and if you are killed in the Way of Allah or die, forgiveness and mercy from Allah are far better than all that they amass.

 SURAH 4

74. Let the believers fight in the Cause of Allah, they may sell the life of this world for the Hereafter. And whoever fights in the Cause of Allah, and is killed or gets victory, we shall bestow on him a great reward.

84. Fight in the Cause of Allah, you will not be held responsible except for yourself, and incite the believers (to fight), Allah will stop the violence of the disbelievers.  Allah is Stronger in Might and Stronger in punishing.

SURAH 5

33. The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and made act of corruption, is  only that they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off on the opposite sides, or be exiled from the land. That is their disgrace in this world, and a great torment is theirs in the Hereafter.

SURAH 8

12. Your Lord inspired the angels, "I am with you, so keep firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. So strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes."

17. You did not kill them but Allah killed them.

39. And fight them until there is no more disbelief and that the religion will be only that of Allah in the world

41. And know that whatever of war-booty that you may gain, one-fifth of it is assigned to Allah, and to the Messenger, and his near relatives and to the orphans, the poor people and the wayfarers in distress

60. and make ready to fight against them all the power you can including steeds of war to threaten the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others besides whom, you may not know but whom Allah does know.

65. O Prophet incites the believers to fight. If there are twenty steadfast persons amongst you, they will defeat two hundred, and if there be a hundred steadfast persons they will defeat a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they are people who do not understand.

67. A Prophet should never make prisoners until he wins and incapacitates the disbelievers on earth

SURAH 9

14. Fight against them so that Allah will punish them by your hands and disgrace them and give you victory over them and heal the breasts of a believing people,

SURAH 33

16. Say: "Flight will not avail you if you flee from death (without fighting) or from killing (in fighting) and then you will enjoy life no more than a little while!"

SURAH 47

6-LOCAL MISSION OF THE QUR'AN

The Prophet did not seem to have a real Universalist conception of Islam that his successors have given it.The Qur'an was revealed to warn the mother of cities: Mecca and its surroundings (verse 92 Surah 6) and six other verses indicate that the Qur'an was written in Arabic to be understood from the people concerned by it. The Qur'an therefore would address the people naturally speaking and reading Arabic and of course living in Mecca and its surroundings.

SURAH 6

92. And this (the Qur'an) is a blessed Book which we have sent down, confirming what came before it, so that you may warn the Mother of Towns ( Mecca) and all those around it.

SURAH 12

2.  We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an in order that you may understand.

SURAH 39

28. an Arabic Qur'an, without tortuosity in order that they are pious.

SURAH 41

44. if We had sent this as a Qur'an in a language other than Arabic, they would have said: "Why these verses are not explained clearly? What! A Book (Qur'an) not in Arabic and an Arab Messenger?"

SURAH 42 -Verse 7

And thus We have inspired unto you a Qur'an in Arabic in order that you may warn the Mother of the Towns (Mecca) and all around it on the Day of Assembling,

7-ABSENCE OF FREE WILL ALLOWING THE DIFFERENCIATION BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG

The strong desire to be a strongly a monotheistic religion like Judaism with an omnipotent God without a shadow of a doubt, seems to have guided the Qur'an far from the notion of free will of human being necessary to build Ethics establishing the differentiation between right and wrong , good and evil.

Without free will of the human being, God is responsible for good and bad actions of human beings. So in verse 93 of Surah 16, it is said that Allah leaves to go astray whom he wills. God guides on the right path whom he wills.

SURAH 16

93. If Allah had willed, he could have made of you one community, but He sends astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. But you shall certainly be called to account for what you used to do.

SURAH 42-Verse 8

and if Allah had wanted, He could have made one single community, but He admits whom He wills to His Mercy and the wrong-doers will have neither a protector nor a helper.

8-STATUS OF WOMEN AND WEARING OF THE VEIL IN THE QUR'AN

The Qur'an contains numerous rules regarding women including the superiority of men over women (verse 34 of Surah 4) and in case of disobedience men must strike them. Regarding clothing they must wear a veil on the chest and back on them their main veil which seems to correspond to a full covering veil.

SURAH 4

SURAH 24

SOURAH 33

59. O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their big veils all over their bodies.

V- CONCLUSION

Jewish monotheism was used to validate the authenticity of Christianity on the basis of common roots and that of Islam as the two new religions pretending that God of Israel is also theirs.

Yet Christianity and Islam have widely divergent Gods. Every religion can legitimately create its own God in particular to claim that its believers are the chosen people of their own God. There is actually a different God for each of the three major monotheistic religions.

The need of Christianity and Islam to refer to the God of Israel has been and remains a serious disturbance factor as the two new religions want to compete with Israel in his own grounds in need of serious references and legitimacy regarding the respect of monotheism. Judaism has not a proselytizing nature as Christianity and Islam are, and is often criticized for being closed to others and therefore his heritage and roots were taken from him against his will. This stubbornness to claim the God of Israel brought Christianity and Islam in the field of fierce competition against Judaism including denigration, hatred and violence (Jihad, Reconquista, Inquisition, anti-Semitism, Holocaust, Islamist terrorism...).

But the God of Israel is unique, intangible and makes difficult the task of proselytes of the two new religions because intangible is a challenge for the human intellect.

The intangible nature of Israel's God brought the two new religions to make adjustments to create a God accessible to the human mind and ease the proselytism targeting expansion and domination. Antisemitic people accuse the Jews of whishes of expansion and domination when they are paradoxically the characteristics of Christianity and Islam.

The two new religions do not merely claim to have the truth but want to impose it on others. Christianity has widely used anthropomorphism in the representation of its God, spawned a vast iconography and drowned the monotheism in a trinity whose existence is qualified as mysterious by Christianity.

Islam broke away from the Jewish Bible and simply makes more or less distorted references or adaptations in the Qur'an. Islam named "peoples of the scripture" and disbelievers the Jews and Christians who refer to Bible and not to the sole Qur'an. Islam refers to a kind of mantra that blends inseparably God and his prophet, who is only a human messenger but also more since his representation is forbidden. This inseparable association may be also the anthropomorphic touch which is useful to proselytize.

Christians have accused the Jews of deicide while this is nonsense when we refer to an eternal God and demonstrate the important weight of the anthropomorphism in Christianity.

We had to reach the paroxysm of the Holocaust to obtain that the Church (Vatican II-1965) raises "in a clumsy way" the charge of deicide against the Jews.

It is now the turn of Islam to make the effort to lift the curse of his God against the Jews and also against the Christians and all the individuals of the world the condemnation of Christianity and threats arising against Jews, Christians and all individuals who have other beliefs than those written in the Qur'an.

The human rights have become a benchmark necessary for the survival of humanity and religious and other beliefs must accept them.

The resurgence of jihadist spirit through terrorism participates to a substantial restart of anti- Semitism despite the recent annihilation of two thirds of European Jews.

Islam would be incompatible with humanitarian values if it is not reformed. The Quran followed to the letter questions the safety of Jews worldwide, aggravates substantially the Israeli-Arab conflict, obliges the Christians of Middle East to flee or die and destroys the monuments of the rich pre-Islamic civilizations.

A group of fanatical Islamists has decided that he respected the Qur'an much better than many other Muslims and gave to himself the right to kill them in number these believers.  These actions must be stopped military but also at the root.

To act at the root it seems that there are two solutions:

1-The theological solution

This might be done in deleting or rewording is to remove the virulent verses of the Qur'an that comes to actions related to the period and to events of the revelation of the Qur'an and which would not have thus a universal aspect. Of course in this time the human rights did not exist.

The great battles of the Prophet against the confederates from Mecca may explain the warlike and violent orientation of the Qur'an; the argument with the Jewish tribes of Medina may explain the anti-Judaism of the Qur'an; the choice of Arabic as the only recognized language and for reasoning confirms the local aspect of Islam (Mecca and its surroundings).

2-The Separation of the secular and religious fields

This solution consists as in modern democracies as to separate the religious sphere from the secular domain and restrict religion to those places of worship and to privacy.

The State handles civil cases and rights of the citizens in society with no relation with the religious sphere which has no power to civilian life.

The Human Rights do not refer to Qur'anic guidelines and are implemented and guaranteed by the State. This way is more conciliatory and is particularly effective since it was chosen recently by Tunisia and provokes the anger of Islamic fanatics against the population. These terrorists would like to obtain the collapse of the Tunisian economy rather than see Islam put aside.

However Tunisia is a nation unlike most Arab countries and drew its modernity in its trade with the advanced states. Many Arab States seem to be on the way to disintegration because the very notion of State inspired in the Middle East by the Sykes-Picot Agreement of 1916 does not seem appropriate to the Arab world that must find a more suitable organization and more sustainable to continue to dialogue with the outside world on a reliable basis.
